George A Vandercar from Waterford, Saratoga, New York!  He was married to a (Mary) Harriet Lansing.

George A Vandercar is my g.g.g. grandfather

Their son Nicholas Vande(r)car was a Civil War Vet born:.7 July 1845 in Waterford, NY  died:11 Mar 1911 in Caro, Tuscola, MI.

Geo. A and Harriet may have had another son by the name of George.  I have no documentation of George A Vandercar's DOB, DOD, location.

My brick wall ends with George A Vandercar..

I would love some help!

Thanks!

Also found the family on the 1860 census, which I am attaching- Nicholas is married to a Mary and they have a son George, and next door is a George Vandercar with wife Mary and they appear to have a 1 year old son George.

Hi Peggy-

I notice that there is not a Nicholas Vandercar on the Civil War records, but there is a Nicholas Vandecar, who married an Abigail and had a son Moses, have you evidence that this Nicholas is the same man who married Mary Ann and had a son George? In 1870, I find Nicholas, Mary George and a Rebecca in michigan, and I assume that Rebecca, age 18, is possibly Nicholas's sister who was 8 in the 1860 census. I'm assuming that George and Mary had died, and Nicholas took Rebecca in? I'm attaching a record from the 1880 census, the last family on the page is a Nicholas Vandecar, wife Abigail and son Moses.
sorry, I will try to attach the right record ;) I will also attach the 1870.

According to his obituary in the Tuscola County Advisor:

"Mr. Vandecar was born in Saratoga county, New York 70 yrs ago. AT the breaking out of the civil war he left his young wife and small child to enlist in the 21st N.Y. Volunteer Infantry, the latter dying before his return. His wife died in 1869 and three years later he married Miss Abbie Purdy of New Boston, Michigan, who survives. they had one son, Moses, who died four years ago."

I believe the person who supplied the info had some of the dates wrong I have headstone pictures stating Nicholas' Mary date of death as 1871. The story is Mary was ill and he hired Abbie to help care for her. After Mary's death, he married Abbie and they had one son Moses (my gr. grandfather)
My main question is... WHO is George A Vandecar????who are his parents? I have a 1840 Census for Waterford, Saratoga, NY Which shows ,with a questionable transcription of census, a Jared(James) V S Vankacar, Barry Vandakar, George A Vandakar and a Mary Vandakar. There is ANOTHER George Vandakar listed on another page of the same census.

That is my roadblock....George A Vandercar, Vandakar whatever, lol.. It's frustrating who are his parents.

From talking with other Vandecar lineage searches.. I know the FIRST Vandecar's originated from Holland...

Dirk Dirkse Van Der Karre
BIRTH: 1663 - Holland (Netherlands)
DEATH: End
MARRIAGE: 7 Aug 1687 - Kinderhook, Columbia, N.Y (New York)
SPOUSE: Feitje Claase Van Schaik

but how i get from Holland to George A Vandakar, Vandercar, Vandecar....is a mystery.. why doesn't Ancestry.com want to know where "I" come from!

just kidding..Thanks so much for your insight!
Peggy
I've seen this as well.. I'm wondering though re: George (1 yr old) mainly because there is a 1 yr old George listed as living w/ George and Mary as well as with Nicholas and Mary Ann! I've not been able to find info re: Mary Ann having any other children other than William Worden Vandecar.

I'm trying to answer these in order so I dont get my self more confused than I am..

Thanks.
thanks for writing back.. Yes, I've seen this census. I'm not sure re: the (George A Butler) that you had in parentheses.

Nicholas Vandercar (age 14) married Mary Ann Morin (age 11) they had 1 child (William Worden Vandecar) who lived only 5 months. He was born in 1870 and died in April 1870 and Mary died in August 1871.

I feel bad that I havent' added the children of Mary (Harriet) before. I've had this census for a while now :*) my bad..
the Butler name came from Ancestry, I think someone added a correction, though the name is not Butler :)
Hi Kate,

Whilst doing some digging I found an old email from a fellow searcher who states the Butler name was the Maiden name of Mary Ellen Butler Morrin(Moran) I've got a message out to her for info.. would be great to really have a last name for her...

thanks so much for your help!
