Harriss Family of Halifax County, NC in 1870

I have been trying to find my ggg grandfather Alfred Harriss and his family in North Carolina for quite some time in the 1870 Federal Population Census--I do believe that I have hit a brick wall. I find them in the 1880-1930 Census. However I am able to Holland Harriss in 1870 living in the household of a Louis Hannon...here's what I have:

Enumerated above Alfred Harriss is another Harriss Family who I believe are relatives

Hi Khathu-

I tried to find the rest of the Harriss family in 1870, my assumption would be that either the rest of the family were just missed, or their names were badly misspelled? I tried by first names of Alfred and the children that were alive in 1870, in Halifax County, and elsewhere in NC, is it possible that they were in another state for some reason? I will keep hunting :)

Hello Kate -

I have looked for the family in both NC and VA using various spelling of the last name. I have also done searches using the first of the children who would have been alive in 1870. In addition, I have tried to locate Richard Harriss and his family in the 1870 census as well.

I am definitely at a brickwall.
