Hi everyone! My "most wanted" is John Rusch. According to family and census info he was born around 1845 in Bavaria (Germany) and died 27 march 1906 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was married to Barbara (maiden name is possibly Gress) around 1871. They had 7 children, 4 of whom lived to adulthood. One child was born and died between their marriage and the 1880 census. Other children appearing on the 1880 census are Joseph (b. ca. 1871 in Kentucky); Rosie (b ca. 1877); Adeline Cecilia (b. 26 Feb 1880 and d. 10 Sept 1945, Louisville, KY); Blondina (b. 10 Jul 1882 and d. 16 Dec 1965 in Louisville); Nettie (b. 31 Mar 1886 and d. 27 May 1948 in Louisville); and Stella (b. 28 Nov 1890 and d. 20 Jun 1923 in Louisville). Adeline, Blondina, Nettie and Stella all married.

John apparently came to the US in 1854. No naturalization information is noted in the 1900 census. He was a cooper by trade, and appears in the city directories from 1874 through 1906. He is buried in St. Michael's cemetery, no stone was found on my last visit.

Gene,
This is very interesting. I knew about the John Rusch in the Indiana 32nd - my other gggrandfather, Daniel Mueller was in that unit. But this one is not the John Rusch I'm looking for. There is at least one other John Rusch in Louisville at the time. He would have been a teenager at the beginning of the war, around 15, so it is possible that he may have served. What is the name of the widow who applied for the pension? - his wife was Barbara.

Boy, I really didn't expect such a response - I just threw this out to see what would happen! What a great place!

Thanks, Gene. As I said in a previous comment, I just threw this out off the top of my head when I discovered this site and group. I will go back through my documentation and post more details. Probably won't have a chance to do this until after the holidays. I'll also put together info on my other "common" named ancestor - John Stone (on the other side of my family).
