Does anyone have Martha I (or J) Rhodes in their lines? She was born 22 Feb. 1857 in Nelsonville, Hocking County, OH and died 1 June 1897 in Good Hope Township, Ohio. She was married to Isaac Messick Carey (Carbon Hill, Hocking County, OH)
I have a picture of her tombstone if anyone is interested."

Hi, Gene. Yes, we are looking for any information on Martha's parents or siblings. I have posted a picture in the photo section that is a montage of the Carey Family and the large picture is Isaac's Tombstone that also includes Martha (his first wife) and Emmaline (his second wife). Unfortunately, we do not have a picture of Martha and would love to have one. (The picture of the gentleman with the mustache is Isaac) If you go to photos and search for Carey you should fine the picture--it is called Project0. I'm a novice at posting pictures, etc. so I hope you find it. If not, I will post it here.

Also pictured on the photo is Isaac's CW stone and his GAR medallion.

Oops. Sorry--Nelsonville is in Athens County--just down the "hill" from Hocking:) This is hubby's family and I'm not firm on Ohio geography. We visited the Logan County Courthouse and found the following: Death Record found at Logan County Courthouse; Logan, Ohio
Death Book III, Page 161, Record No. 5538
Age at death: 39 yrs 2 mos. 2 days
Cause of death: Dropsy
Place of residence at death: Good Hope Township
Reported by Assessor

A bit of background--Branson Carey, Isaac's father, was in the canal boat business for which Isaac worked as well. Because of the mobility issue we have not found him in the 1870 Census. In 1860, he was also working on the canal boat. He joined the Civil War (113th OH Vol. Inf., Co B) at Franklin County in 1863 and was honorably discharged in 1864 at the end of the war, having served from Louisville, KY to Bentonville, NC. He marched in the victory parade in Washington, D.C. He married Martha after that (but we don't have date or place). They had no children. After her passing he married Emmaline Newlum (Newlin, Newlan, etc.) 31 March 1900. They had 5 children: Lawrence, Martha, John Henry, Branson Jefferson, and George Ellsworth. George was hubby's father. John Henry, Branson Jefferson, and Emmaline were killed due to a house fire December of 1917.

Thank you for the offer to check the FHL Catalogs for us. We would appreciate it.

Gene--I'd have to go back and double check files, but I believe it was from Isaac's pension records. Also via oral family history. The Logan I am referring to is the County Seat of Hocking County. It was estatablished by Thomas Worthington, 4th Governor of Ohio, as a real estate investment. I guess I need to clean up my description in the death records to be less confusing.

And so goes how we confuse ourselves:)
Gene--Thank you for the information and we will look into the discrepancy you are concerned with.

We did, indeed, have Isaac's death certificate. It is interesting to note that the person reporting the death, was his wife, but she did not know where Isaac's father had been born. She was born the same year he died. We have Branson's baptismal record from the Prince Georges Anglican Church, Dagsboro, DE, dated 1807. The 1850 Census record for Branson shows DE as well.
