I'm trying to piece together my O'Connell Family line. It appears some family members came to America first and sent for the remainder of the family a few years later.

Elizabeth O'Connell is my Gr Gr Grandmother. Here's a snippt from Elizabeth's Obituary.

Elizabeth O'Connell-Cadigan was born close by the little church that stood by the Bridesbridge, parish of Fermoy, County Cork, Ireland, August 28th, 1833. Her mother died when Elizabeth was but an infant; there she spent her early childhood and school days, and come to America with her father and "other relatives" in 1847. Her Father only lived but a fews days after their ship landed in New York, leaving her to the care of an only sister.

I'm trying to Identify the Mother and Father and some of the Siblings. There may have been "Other Relatives" also.

The Father died after landing, I'm not sure how to find where he was buried. Each of the Children (Patrick, William & Michael?, not sure of the sister's name yet) named a Son Martin. Martin William O'Connell may have been his name. Each of the Children also also named daughters Mary or Hanna..

I've tried locating the Ship records for the family however, I'm finding out that I'm not too skilled in perusing Ship data effectively. I do not know which ship they came over on or the date they landed, only 1847. I'm open for suggestions.

The Family resided in Herkimer County NY originally and migrated to Montello Wisconsin around 1855. I haven't been successful with Census data in NY. It would sure be nice to know who the other family members are.

Elizabeth O'Connell married David Cadigan (also trying to find his origins) 1855 in Utica NY. They moved to Montello, Marquette County Wisconsin to be near other family members. Patrick & William O'Connell raised their families in the area.

Let me know if you have any suggestions on how to locate the family members in America or in Ireland.

Thank you,

Tim
