Looking for James REYNOLDS, black sheep of the clan, who deserted his wife and 3 children about 1891-3. He lived in Philadelphia, PA from May 1884 to 1891-3 (documented). Looking for his parents and those of his wife, Elizabeth RICHTER. These were my maternal ggrandparents.

It helps emmensely. I do find myself scattered and having to go back to the root Q: Who was James and where did he fit in the scheme of things? Then I chase what I know and see what turns up and try to connect the dots. Takes time. I really am just beginning to find my way around the net for resources.

Thanks for your help and tips.

Gene,
While copying the directory info you sent, I got to thinking:
1. When my grandfather, Robert, was born on 9 Oct 1884, Lizzie and James's listed address on his birth certificate was 915 McKean St., Philadelphia, PA.
2. This is the same address I found for them in McElroy's 1890 ed of the Directory of the City of Philadelphia. There was another directory of Phila issued that year in which he was not listed.
3. There is a possibility (a far out guess) that James family was involved in the oyster business. Lizzie's grandparents (Magel) were oystermen or oysterfishers probably on Delaware Bay since they were living in Philla with Charles Richter (1880 census).

No further brain waves.

It pays to go back over notes for anything you might have missed before! I found a note my Mother had written to a professional genealogist that gave two addresses where she had lived as a child, but no dates.

On the 1910 census, I have Robert, Katherine and Catherine Reynolds living at 2510 South Reese St, Philadelphia, PA. All known facts fit census info. I also, thanks to GeneJ found that this same Katherine was listed as living with her parents at 437 Wolf St in Phila., but some of the info was skewed, such as age, state of birth, and marital status. Don't know what's going on.

My Mother also listed two other addresses, but no dates:
417 Durfor St, Philadelphia, PA. (Mom had memories of living here)
352 Wolf St, Philadelphia, PA. (No memories)
as former residences.
I'll be checking these today in the 1920 and 1930 census.
