Searching for the elusive Caroline "Carrie" Belle Pickle b. 22 Mar 1869 Eagle Lake, Blue Earth Co., MN d.?

I have been helping one of my cousins research his Pickle line. I have also seen the name spelled Pickel.

Jacob Pickle 02 Jul 1792 in VA - 21 Apr 1883 in Fincastle, Putnam Co., IN. married Nancy Bundrant 17 Jan 1833 in Putnam Co., IN. The marriage record lists his name a John Pickle so it is possible that his first name was John. Nancy b. 1812 VA - bef 1870 Fincastle, Putnam Co., IN. (Note not all of this info is my research, I can not vouch for the accuracy.)

The couple had ten children, all born in Fincastle, IN. To make this brief, I followed Gabriel A. Gabriel 18 Jul 1842 in Fincastle IN - 24 Oct 1924 Huntington Park, Los Angeles Co., CA. Gabriel married Miranda Jane Burgess 22 Mar 1866 in Mankato, Blue Earth Co., MN. Miranda 07 May 1846 Portland Mills, Putnam Co., IN - 17 Feb 1932 Long Beach, Los Angeles Co., CA.

Gabriel & Miranda are buried in the Burgess Cemetery, Eagle Lake, Blue Earth Co., MN.

Gabriel & Miranda had 14 children all born in Blue Earth Co., MN. My cousin is searching for his elusive g grandmother, Caroline "Carrie" Belle Pickle.

Carrie was b. 22 Mar 1869 Eagle Lake, Blue Earth Co., MN - ?
Marriage #1 William Henderson Ewing 14 May 1887 Eagle Lake, Blue Earth Co., MN. William Ewing 11 Feb 1850 Edgar Co., IL - 30 Aug 1928 Visalia, Tulare Co., CA. The marriage ended in a bitter divorce, he obtained custody of their son.

Marriage #2 Lafayette Dyer bef. 1899. Lafayette 1867 IN - 02 Oct 1905 Blue Earth Co., MN. Lafayette died in a farming accident. They had two children.
Note, Layfayette & Carrie were first cousins. His mother, Julia was Gabriel's sister.

Marriage #3 Fred Otto Ingwersen bef. 1915 in IA? I found the couple on the 1915 IA State census living in Waterloo, Blackhawk Co., IA with her two children by Dyer, Cecil C. & Lorelei Iyone. (Lorelei's married name was Helmke.)

Fred 23 Dec 1884 IA - ?. I don't know if he had been previously married or not. Fred's parents were August Ingwersen b. abt. 1854 in Germany & Ottlia Emilie Friedericke Brummb. 06 Apr 1858 in Guttenburg, IA.

Fred & Carrie did not have children. The trail ends with the 1920 census. Fred & Carrie were living Dubuque City (Ward1), Dubuque Co., IA.

My cousin said that various relatives stated that Carrie attended her mother's funeral in 1932 in Blue Earth Co., MN. The relatives had no other info re Carrie.

My cousin obtained some family info from his grandfather & other Pickle relatives.

A number of Gabriel & Miranda's children settled in Los Angeles Co., CA.

I have more info re this family, including Gabriel's Civil War record and obituary.

Hi Judy-
Welcome to Most Wanted! :)

Do you have census records for Carrie in 1870-1910? I see that you have her in 1915 and 1920. Are the marriages and dates for the marriages based on marriage records or census records?

Do you know where Carrie's son with William Ewing ended up after the divorce, and are there records for the divorce?

Would Carrie have gone to California?
1. I have census records for Carrie including the MN State census records & IA State census. I believe there was a 1925 IA State census. But, I could not find her nor her husband on that census.

2. Carrie & William's g grandson privided some of the info re Carrie's marriages. It is possible that he has copies of the marriage records. I also obtained some info re dates of her marriages from census records.

3. I have a copy of the divorce papers. The divorce was very bitter. Custody of their only child, Lester was eventually awarded to William.

Lester was on the 1930 census living with his family in Howard Township, Madera Co., California. He d. 07 Jul 1949 in Santa Maria, Santa Barbara Co., CA

William Ewing d. 30 Aug 1928 in Visalia, Tulare Co., CA.

4. Carrie's parents, Gabriel Pickle & Miranda Burgess d. in Los Angeles Co., CA. A number of her siblings settled in southern CA. While it is possible that Carrie visited her parents & siblings, I don't believe she lived there.

My cousin has been in touch with both his Pickle & Ewing cousins. Their last recollection was that Carrie attended her mother's funeral in Feb 1932 in Blue Earth Co., MN. After that, they apparently lost touch with her. Carrie would have been abt. 63 at the time of her mother's death.

I am related to my cousin through our Ewing line.
I have not done extensive research re Gabriel Pickle's parents. I was more interested in helping my cousin find is g grandmother. I thought I would let my cousin research his ggg grandparents and beyond.

I will forward your the info you have posted to my cousin.
According to my cousin, Carrie was 16 years old & William Ewing was 37 years old when they married 14 May 1887 in Blue Earth Co., MN.

I will check out the 1930 census for Carrie & Fred Ingwersen. I appreciate your checking the Iowa WPA cemetery records.
Hi Judy-

On Ancestry I find a Carrie I Ingwersen who died May 25, 1943, in Chicago, Cook, IL. I don't know how common the last name is, but this sounds like a possibility?
I found Caroline "Carrie" Belle Pickle with the help of two kind souls. The women made copies of the death certificates for Fred & Carrie (Pickle) Ingwerson. Carrie died 25 May 1943 & Fred died 30 May 1943 in the Cook Co. Hospital. They are buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Chicago, IL.
I want to thank everyone in the group for help in my search for Carrie Belle Pickle.
I do not know how to edit my previous comment.
Hi Judy-
We are all fortunate to find those genealogy angels, in our midst. :) I'm glad you were able to help your cousin find an answer for Carrie. :)
My cousin who is g grandson of Carrie Pickle & William Henderson Ewing has brought to my attention that I had her name wrong. Carrie's name was Carolyn Isobel Pickle. Her family and friends called her Carrie.

Name listed on her death certificate was Carrie I. Ingwersen. Ingwersen/Ingwerson was her married name.
