Carhampton Hundred

Carhampton Hundred includes the parishes: Oare, Culbone, Porlock, Luccombe, Selworthy, Stoke-Pero, Cutcombe, Luxborough, Treborough, Withycombe, Carhampton, Wootton-Courtney, Dunster, Exford, Timberscombe, Minehead.

My 2x great grandmother Elizabeth Rew was baptized at Selworthy and the daughter of John Rew (farmer) and Elizabeth Siderfin. The Rew family is found at Wootton Courtney and the Siderfin family at Selworthy, Wootton Courtney, Luccombe, Luxborough, Cutcombe, and Minehead. Elizabeth Siderfin's parents were: Robert Siderfin and Grace Kent. The Kent family was found at Porlock and Luccombe. The parents of John Rew were: John Rew and Sarah Moggridge. The Moggridge family was found at: Porlock, Culbone, and Wootton Courtney.

My 2x great grandmother Elizabeth Rew married John Pincombe at Bishops Nympton in 1834. Discovering her ancestry was a brickwall for a while until I chanced upon the will of her father who died at Sheepwash, Bishops Nympton but was buried at Selworthy. The ancestry of these families of North Devon and West Somerset and how they intermingle is absolutely fascinating.
