I've done quite a bit of research on the Piggs from Hertfordshire who married into my husband's WOLFENDEN family. The Pigg tree goes back James Pigg and Mary Kimpton who married in 1805 in Orwell,…Continue

I was following a Pigg family line in Pittsylvania Co., VA, when I came upon a man named William Pigg who is said to have moved to Mississippi. This William is not the same man I am "supposed" to descend from. It may take a while to research this, as it does not seem to be generally known. I thought I would relay the information.

Several of the Trees at Ancestry.com give Lucinda Womack's mother's name as Martha Anne Drucilla Byars who married Abner Womack. This Lucinda is supposed to be the mother of John Pigg who I research, and wife of Clayborn Pigg, but records are painfully few. Clayborn disappears about 1837. Lucinda remarries. Maybe Clayborn didn't die and married Artelesia?
See above discussion on John A. Pigg's ancestors.

I have a Druscilla Jane Pigg, daughter of unknown Pigg, who had to have died between 1848 (when he fathered his last daughter) and 1850, and mother Artelesia/Atremesia.

Druscilla Jane Pigg married William A Carr 27 May 1851 in Lauderdale AL. She has these children with him:
James Carr 1852 –
Martha Elizabeth Carr 1855 –
Mary Frances Carr 1858 – 1938
Artemesia Leesa Carr 1860 – 1883
Lula Cordelia Carr 1866 – 1894

In 1860 census the Carr family are in Tishomingo MS. In 1870 Druscilla is widowed, widowed again by a man last name Lewis, and living in Scott Co. Missouri. She is in Scott Co in 1880 with 3rd husband, Mars.

In 1850 Druscilla Jane is listed with her mother Artelesia in Lauderdale AL with her siblings:
Ranson Pigg 1830 –
Martha Pigg 1832 –
Davis Henderson Pigg 1836 – 1865
Mary Pigg 1838 –
Andrew Jackson Pigg 1840 –
William Pigg 1845 –
Sarah Pigg 1846 –
Margarett Pigg 1848 -

They seem to have moved around a bit, based on the children's birth places:

1830 Residence, Tennessee
Oldest child: Ranson is born in TN in 1830. So family is likely there. Martha and Druscilla born here as well.

1838 Residence, Alabama
Mary, Andrew and William are all born in Alabama.

1846 Residence Tennessee
Sarah and Margaret are born in Tennessee.

There are a lot of Pigg folks in Tennessee too, so I'm looking there as well. I hope we can exchange information. Any ideas about who this unknown father Pigg might be?

Thanks!

I doubt he is related to me, but someone might be interested.

The people above are the ones I am researching. Can you recheck to see which county please?) I have checked the info on Ancestry.com. Ethalinda & John Pigg were living in Hardin Co., TN during the 1850 Census.

Warren Co., TN 1830 Census - there were five Pigg families. The five families were headed by Hardy, Nathan, Nathan, Paul and William.

Hello!
Pigg is a very old name, and John Pigg was an early immigrant to America from England. Some claim the name was originally French. I have not researched the name farther back than the immigrant, but I welcome information from global Piggs. I hope to learn more about people with this surname, including from the people of color, and native ancestry.

I hear a few snickers.... Some people born with this surname have changed their name, while others have given their children interesting names, as Ima Pigg, John A. Pigg, Harry Pigg, and Icy Pigg. People with this surname usually develop a sense of humor, and the ability to look people in the eye when they give their name.

I have had a devilish time researching my Pigg line. Over the last many years I have built up a large database of Pigg, by following lines in hope they were mine. I have also pursued Pegg and Piggott. I will help any Pigg researchers if I can, and I hope someone has information that can help me in my research.
