I am looking for information on the Walter Alexus Rice and Miriam Garrison family. I was told he was born in New York then mived to Iowa. Some records have him listed as WA Rice. According to his gravesite date of birth is May 2, 1821 and death July 2, 1902. I am a decendent of his son William H Rice (1857-1930) who married Mary Heine (1861-?), then my gg-grandfather Was William Alan Rice (1891-1959) and he married Marie Graves and they lived in Tenstrike, Minnesota. My grandfather is William A Rice II who married Inez Moon.

If anyone has more information on any of these families I would love to hear from you!

This is a correction for Laura Rice and Wilks Chalk children. Marie Chalk, Lillie Mae Chalk and Elwillie chalk are not the children of Laura Rice. They are the oldest children of Wilks Chalk. They are the children of Wilks Chalks' first wife Annie Palmer Chalk. Laura Chalk was Wilks Chalk's second wife.

I am descended from John W. Rice (1793 - 1862) of New Market, VA. He was one of the largest land owners & slave holders in the Shenandoah Valley & lived in Stanley Hall (which still stands) just north of New Market. Would greatly appreciate any information on this Rice family. Thank you.

Hi I am researching my family tree and just found this wonderful website! I was wondering if anyone could help me.
I have traced my Rice line back to South Carolina to James Rice (1798-1875) married to Mahulda "Hulda" Cannon (1804-1888) South Carolina. I am at a dead end on James. I have no siblings or parents to James as of right now. Can anyone please help? James is my 4th great gandfather. James and Mahula Rice and family moved to Arkadelphia,Alabama and that is where he died. Mahulda moved to Texas with her daughter and family and died in Texas. I have all the info on their children and etc...

Thank you for any help!

To everyone research Rice, Royce, Ryces and similar names:

There's a great website on the history of Rices. See Edmund-Rice.org. It's an organization that's been around for 100 years. Rices have spread out all over the United States (north, south, east, west). Please let me know if you find any information on the Rices who were captured by the Mohawks and taken to Kanawake, Canada (Silas Rice, the lost boys) and married a Native American woman in your research. Thanks

Hi Stephen,

I'm new to this sign and still trying to figure out how to navigate. I am not sure where to begin. My grandfather was Mohawk of French Canadian and had family in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Rice descendants I'm of this line I'm told are likely related to Silas captured by natives and taken to Canada. Still don't have much more information but believe he is connected to the St. Regis Reservation in St. Lawrence New York State.

Hi genie,
Silas Rice is related to me (2nd cousin 7 times removed) hardly close but related nonetheless! I do not have any descendants for him or his brother Timothy. Perhaps there is some information we can share that would help both of us.
