I'm sorry to ask again, but can anyone out there do a translation for me?
I'm trying to figure out how my great-great grandfather, Lars Larsson Bergman died. He died in June of 1887, just a month before his son {my great-grandfather} died. He was only 39 yrs old. :(
Also, any suggestions on the best way to do translations? I'm trying to use Google Translate, but it doesn't help when I can't understand what letters are!
Thanks!
Jennifer

First of all, do not be sorry to ask. This is what this group was created for.
Working out translations is work. The hand writing is the most difficult part for most. I will take a cut at the letters to help encourage the process.
om_uligt förlä__ade af starka dryk
first word __ __ __ __ ligt
second word line 2 must be af
last word dry_k
something to do with strong drinks ?????
What you often have to do is look at the page or pages and see how the writer formed other letters to words that you have confidence in. and a native speaker here may have better luck...
Thanks Lynn!!
You are right, the handwriting is the hardest - it's so hard to pick words out in old handwriting when you don't speak the language.
I think that you're right - it says something about strong drinks. How sad - he was only 39 when he died. {I made a mistake on my above post. It was supposed to say that he died the month before his son, my great-grandfather, was born - not died!!} My great grandfather never met his father.

Omåttligt drickande av starka drycker = excessive drinking of strong beverages.
Thank you so much Leif!!! That makes more sense!
