I am doing research on the names Halgren/Hallgren/Hellgren, Johanson, Olsson and Arvidson. Both my Paternal Great great grand Parents came from Sweden. William Nils Hallgren or Hellgren (according immigration documentation) was born in Helsingborg Malmouhus Ian Skane Sweden. He was married to Eva Sophia Johanson, born in Monsteras, Kalmar Ian (Smaland) Sweden.
Their son F. Albert Halgren was born in South Boston, MA. He married Elsa Arvidson who emmigrated from Sweden.
I found a photo book documenting a trip when Elsa Halgren went back to Sweden in 1966 for a visit. Elsa left Logan Airport, Boston, MA. with her daughter, Frances on May 29, 1966 to return to Sweden for a family visit.

According to their travel manifest, they flew via Pan-Am on a DC-8 jet plane which left Boston at 2200 hrs. This was a scheduled direct flight to Stockholm, Sweden with a possible stop in Ireland for re-fueling. They were scheduled to arrive at Arlanda airport, Stockholm, Sweden at 1000 hrs.

On May 30, 1966 (Sweden time). They left Arlanda airport, Stockholm on June 29, 1966 at appoximately 1600 hrs. (Sweden time) and were due at Logan airport, Boston, MA. on June 29, 1966 at 2200 hrs. EST.

A photo album documenting their visit shows photos in Stockholm, a hotel in Gyllene Uttern, and a stop at Skjalls jo Church in Floda, Sweden. Frances makes a note in the photo album that her mother was confirmed in this church in 1899. (This has not been confirmed). There were several photographs taken in the Floda area. One photograph shows Elsa next to the grave of August Abrahamsson (unknown what the significance is.)
Frances then notes an arrival in Alingsas, followed by several pictures of people believed to be family relations. The names of Sture, Svea, Brita, Reija, Torsten, Rolf, Anna, Lena, Bertil, Anna-Stina, Pelle, Greta and Anders are noted next to several pictures Elsa and Frances went onto Norway where they visited Oslo.
The rest of the photographs in the album are without notations. I am trying to identify the names of the people mentioned in the photo album.
I welcome any comments or suggestions from my friends here Sweden and Swedish Ancestry site.

The details of the flight do not hep at all. What you need to find out is when where they born? When did they immigrated? If thats not known when is the first evidence that they are in US. I did a quick search in the  1900 Census and found this Elsa that is born in skallsjö.

If it her then you need to find all Swedish her siblings/cousins and trace them forward.

Thank you Sven for responding and you are right, the flight details do not help.  I just thought it made for interesting reading.

The person you searched is my Great Grandmother. She was born in Goteborg on 20 September 1885.  She sailed on the ship Orlando on 18 July 1906 to Grimsby. Once in Grimsby she sailed to Boston on the SS Arabic on 20 July 1906. She was 20 years old at the time.

Can you translate your search result for me?  Unfortunately I do not speak or read Swedish.

Again, I thank you very much for your help.  If I can do the same for you, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for your post and a good description of what facts you have including dates. Even though the airplane trip back to Sweden only give a few hints the trip was so typical. By the 1960s air travel from USA to Sweden was common and affordable and many immigants who came over as children were able to return to their homeland for a visit. You are so lucky to have annotated pictures. I have pictures but with no notes. It takes a huge detective project to figure them out and some we will never know. (I was surprised to hear that PanAm had a direct flight to Arlanda. In 1962 I flew NYC-Copenhagen-Arlanda.)

Do a search on Google for   Skallsjö Älvsborgs län  (copy characters to get the Swedish spelling!!!  Those Swedish letters are IMPORTANT. They are distinct letters, not accents.) You will find a number of entries that you should check out including a note that the church was in Älvsborgs län (the county) and now is in Västra Götlands län (???). One picture shows ruins in 2007 so something may have happened. Fortunately the records were likely at the archives by then. Much of the filming began in the late 1940s. The area is near Gothenburg  (Göteborg in Swedish, the second biggest city in Sweden, and biggenst port)

HI Scott,

Google Map readily finds your church location. Enter  Skallsjö kyrka, Göteborgsvägen, Lerum, Sverige and zoom in.  You can see the cemetery surrounding the church and see the church (look for the shadow of the tower).

Hello again....

Do you know what year William Nils Hallgren was born? Maybe you alredy have information about his parents?

Helsingborg is a town with about 100.000 residents, close to where I live, and a parish where I do a lot of my genelogy research.

Hello Eva,

I have his date of birth as 19 October 1845, born in Helsingborg Malmouhus Ian Skane Sweden.  William Nils Hallgren is what the records show once he got to the U.S.  His name actually was Nils Peter Hellgren. He emmigrated 11 July 1887 from Salomonhog 5,6, Grevie, Kristianstads Ian (Skane)

Thank you

Sorry, I read your answer after I posted a new reply!

Hi!

I found a Nils Petter, born the 19:th of october 1845 in Helsingborg. Father was Lars Christian Hellgren and his wife Petronella Olsdotter from Pålsköpshus in Helsingborg. He was baptised november the 2:nd..

Sometimes, when people emigrated, they changed names. Maybe this Nils Petter is your William Nils Hellgren/Hallgren?

Thank you Eva!!
Elsa Arvidson Hallgren is third from the left.  The only information on the other people pictured is from left to right - Sture, Svea and Brita.  The photo was taken in Alingsas.
