Interested int he Keller Family from Luzern. They owned and operated Keller Drueckerei int he late 1800-early 1900. I have actually done a lot of research on them, and am looking for anecdotal details to add to the picture. Also need to figure out how to go further back a few generations, as my visit to CH last year was brief and it is clear that one has to physically visit archives and churches to view records (not to mention spend $$$ to get the various permissions!). I was a bit disappointed to not find more available online, or at least electronically accessible, though I admit that holding the giant record books in my hands was something special.

Hello,

Iam researching the Knuist family from The Netherlands. My gggggfather was Ullrich Cnaus. On his death certificate in 1811 was written that he was from Breil Graauwbunderland. No parents or birthdate were mentioned.

How can I find out who his parents were?

I just googled Johann Christophel Truby, and I found a Nancy Ryan of Ohio searching for the same persons.... what she had was that the Truby family fled from Alsace Lorraine to Switzerland in 1685.... My Stroh family is from Alsace Lorraine. Unfortunately she didn't have the names of the parents.... but this may just add another piece to your puzzle. Later, Thom

Hello,  My 7th great grandparents Johann Christophel Druiff-Traub (Truby) born 1701 in Switzerland and Maria Catharine (unknown) born 1702 in Switzerland. I would like to find their parents names, but don't know where to start looking. I do not speak German or Swiss. They immigrated to America in 1731. Any suggestions?

My gr-great grandmother was Maria Louise Zweifel, born in Glarus, Switzerland. She married a Johann George Trieschmann from Germany, and had a daughter, Charlotte Elizabeth, born in Falls Village, Connecticut, in 1865, of whom I'm descended. I was lucky that there was already a lot of information with the Mormans about the Zweifel family going back to the birth of Hans Zweifel in 1496...., and among the Swiss names who married into my line were: Scheidegger, Luchsinger, Zellweger, Schlegel, Keller, Schmid, Hefti, Brunner, Vogel, Fuerstenauer, and have info going farther back on a lot of them... of course, I have several deadend/Brickwalls on some of the parentages.  I was lucky in 2000 to go to Switzerland to do family research, and very lucky that Glarus had great records to peruse.  Unfortunately, It wasn't the same in other parts of the country. I wished I kept up with my German that I took when I was in grammar school, so I could understand them better. I liked the sound of the sing-song Swiss German over the gutteral high German of Germany.  At the moment, my first brickwall is a Jakob Scheidegger who was married to Christina Liechti who was born 20 Jun 1764 in Oberburg, Bern, Switzerland. They were the parents of Maria Elizabeth Scheidegger who married Fridolin Zweifel in November of 1838. I have the Liechti line going back to Wilhelm Liechti born about 1562, and the name of all the spouses until then, but not any of their parentages.  Christina's mother was also a Scheidegger, so I was wondering if there was any connection between her mother and her husbund. 1600's, 1700's, Jussen, Jussian, Jessien, Jussan, Jusan, Juzan family of Bearn, Switzerland, and France (to Bayonne & Pyrenees, thence Canada and Mobile, Alabama (there add (Swiss?)-French, Native American, African (Juzang) American branch. Seek Swiss roots. Capt. Peter Juzan, Choctaw Chief, inn keeper of Juzan Lake, Mississippi, in the 1815 Battle of New Orleans, led 52 Choctaw braves from the swamp ("...powdered the alligator's behinds...fired...but the British kept a-coming...") against the British right flank. I don't descend Chief Juzan, but do descend our in-common ancestor, French marine, aide Maj. Pierre Gabriel de Juzan, KIA in combat against Chickasaws, 1730's First Battle of Ackia, Tupelo, Mississippi Military District. His kinsman, Canadian marines, aide Maj. Charles Pierre de Liette, and Capt. Antoine de Tonty, KIA Second Battle of Ackia. All three allegedly considered for after death award of the Order of Saint Louis, but not awarded them.

Capt. Ruprecht Robert Hollinger, born 1590 Waldshist, Switzerland, married 1640 Holland, 1649 Ireland militia captain. Seek parents, siblings, descendants in Ireland and Alabama, USA.

I am looking for help with the name Fess.

Susan Frances Fess born about 1814 in Pennsylvania. On her death record it states her parents as being born in Switzerland.

She married James Kelly who was born in Penn. also.

I have census with Susan and James with children.

I also have Susan's death record. She died Aug 18,1896 in Allegheny County,Pa

Hello!

I live in California with my husband and three young children.

I have just started to collect family stories for my children of their ancestors who immigrated to the United States. Our swiss ancestors, Frederick Glauser came from Bern, Switzerland in 1909 and his wife, Martha Von Neiderhausern came from Guttisburg, Switzerland in 1902. I my grandmother, who is still living, remembers them and says she has cousins living in Switzerland.

I look forward to learning more about our family and how to do research in Switzerland.
