I hve traced the Bardill family back to Jenaz Grabunden Switzerland but not a whole lot before that. I know that the Kries and the Uhlian families as well as the Metz family are in our family line as well. My Paternal Ggrandmother was a Uhlian and my I think gg/ggg Grandfather was married to a Metz. So if anyone knows of any information about the Bardills who migrated in the US to Wartburg TN and more about their travels to get there or from Jenaz please feel free to contat me. Or I can share with you what I know after they arrived in East Tennessee.

I am looking for suggestions that might help me with a roadblock that I have concerning my wife’s grandmother, Lina Cavin, who was born in the Lausanne area, Vaud Canton, in about 1879. I do not know the specific village that she is from.
The problem is that the relevant microfilms from Salt Lake cover the period up to 1875 but not later. I did search the available microfilms for some likely areas for evidence of her parents marriage, but all I know is that her father’s name was Louis Cavin. The search was not very successful.
So I am looking for suggestions about how to proceed.

Hiya. My Great-Great grandmother was Katherine Muller. She was born in Allstetten, Switzerland in 1880. She and her husband John Huettel (born Johan Huttel in Engelthal, Germany) immigrated to America around 1905. Katherine's parents were Johan Emil Muller and Anna Elise Morach.

My Swiss ancestry includes a link between my paternal and maternal sides in the 1400s I think (but I haven't been able to find it again) and Rudisill ancestry. Anybody have Rudisill ancestors, particularly ones who migrated to York County, Pennsylvania, USA?

Rick ... you are so kind to send this information to me. And also to explain it all to me. This is wonderful to find all the family links in one document. I read German records, but was uncertain how these would play out. Again ... thanks for your kind help. Ruby

The father was Jakob Maurer, son of the deceased Johs? Maurer of Schwadernau.
The mother was Margaritha Strasser, daughter of Rud:[olf] from Tüscherz, k: [kirche = church] Sutz.

You can see from the 1838 Gazetteer I listed that Tüscherz belongs to the church parish of Sutz, which records are also microfilmed. Notice that the first two sponsors are Rudlof Strasser, son of Nikeho? [Niclaus] from Tüscherz, the mother's uncle, and Jakob Strasser, the mother's brother from Tüscherz.

If you do a search on Strasser on the link for the Swiss Family Name Handbook, you can see that it occurs at Tüscherz, or going the reverse way, if you could read the location Tüscherz, you could do a search on it and see the names that occur there, which would help in reading the name as Strasser.

So, not only does the baptismal record give his mother's name, but her father's and grandfather's names.

One more question. Can you help me with the name of Rudolph's mother on the baptismal record? His father appears to be Jacob and his mother Margaretha but I am uncertain of her surname. Thanks so much!

This is absolutely fantastic information. Thank you, thank you for the information and jpg of Rudolph's baptism.

As you will note under the reply I gave to resources (under Discussion Forum) that if you click on the 5th link, the Gemeinde of Schwadernau belonged to the church parish of Brügg. Church Book 7, page 279, for Bürglen [Brügg] on FHL microfilm 2,005,367, is his baptism (attached). You should be able to follow his ancestry back through the church books. Maurer.jpg

I am researching Rudolph Mauer/ Maurer, born 7 Jan. 1826 near Berne, Switzerland, died 5 Feb 1907 at Chester, Howard Co., Iowa. He supposed was from Schwadernau in Switzerland. He married Mary Christen on 10 March 1850 in Switzerland. They supposedly came to America in 1866, but I have not located them on a passenger list. They were not heard from after they arrived here. They settled first at Alliance, Stark Co., Ohio. They moved to Howard Co., Iowa, then returned to Stark County for a while and back to Howard County. According to Rudolph's obituary he had five sisters and three brothers. His father died when he was about eighteen years of age.
