Jeffrey Hinkle  have you found out anything since your post below looking for info on Newton Walker? Who did he marry?  what's your mom's name? they would be on the 1920 census 3 yrs after her birth.... and then 1930. He would be on earlier ones with wife, then earlier with parents, if  you don't already have that info, I'll be happy to send it or post it along with anything else I find.....  :)

My great uncle's name was James Cornelius Walker and his nickname was Red Walker. His sister, my grandmother's name was Elizabeth Walker Harrington.

Help!  I descend from a Martha Jane "Mattie" Walker, whose daddy's name was James (and there are records on about a thousand James Walkers in every county in the USA).  From censuses and other stuff, I have learned that Martha Jane Walker was born in 1851, 1853, and 1855...in IN, IL, and MO!  She died 14 July 1927, and is buried in Tucumcari Memorial Park, Quay Co NM. NM cannot locate her Death Certificate, and neither can I.  She was married 10 October 1873 in MO to Andrew Baker Simpson.

About the most solid clue I have is that she lived in Millsap, Parker Co TX, from roughly 1875 until about 1901, and that one of her nieces-by-marriage, Ollie Justus, married William DIllard Goen.  Like I said...HELP!

Found my ggrandparents in Mossy Grove, Lavaca County, Texas. James L. and Sarah O. Walker, J.L. deceased Nov 1879 and Sarah 23 June 1880. Her brother James L. Grizzard became guardian of their 7 children. They came to Texas from Morgan & Limestone Co., Alabama. She born there, father Henry P. Grizzard, J.L. born in Arkansas. Anyone else researching this family?

I know very little about my maternal grandfather. His name was Newton Walker. My mom was born in Houston, Mississippi in 1917 and grew up in Pulaski, Columbia and Nashville, Tennessee. My grandfather died in 1960 - so I would guess he was born in the late 1800's. Any information would be very much appreciated.

I came across this posting that may help clarify the Walker family lore about Toaping Castle: http://members4.boardhost.com/pghistory/msg/1278612322.html

For information about their new home in the colonies built by the Walker brothers and named for the original Toaping Castle, go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toaping_Castle This may give you a start in tracing it in Scotland (thank goodness for handy-dandy Google searching. "Try it; you'll like it").
