What countries and other locations are you interested in researching?
I saw your post about looking for the parents of Ferdinand HOLZGRAFE b. 1854 in Indiana. Do you happen have a more specific place? Have you tried looking to see if there are any church records?
Hello Joan, thank for joining the Haplogroup U group. Your relative who is U5a1a will likely find her/his maternal link tracing to Northwest or Northcenter Europe. See brief description here. Hope you'll share when you learn more.
Have you heard of the German Immigrants in American Church Records project? It's a project where trained researchers at Brigham Young University go through and extract information from German church records. We are going through state by state and publishing books with the information we extract. The Indiana book has already been completed. If you are able to find a copy, perhaps at a library, there is an every name index that might be really helpful. Here is the website for the project: www.germanimmigrants.org
Thanks Joan, still trying to get to grips with this site, I posted a comment on the Ovington page which obviously crossed over with yours coming in.
I would be very pleased if you could post whatever inforation you may have as a new discussion on the Ovington group, as this will enable anyone searching for Ovington interests to pick it up in the future, the comments drop off after a period of time I am told
Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK)
I am the great-great grandaughter of Jane Eleanor Ovington, daughter of Benjamin. While we're not on the paternal side of the Ovington family, that name has been used as a middle name forall the men in the family: my Dad, my Grandfathers brother and their father are all known as Arthur Ovington.
Hi Joan; What I am checking is the Irish Index Birth Registrations. I have a Margaret Melia Born in Co Kildare Or Wicklow. in 1865 and also 1869.
I also have a James born in 1868 in the same Area.
Catherine in 1872 in the same area.
Mary in 1875 in the same area.
Michael in 1879 in the same area. It is under the Naas Registration, Covering Co Kildare and Co Wicklow. Which are both just a little outside Dublin.
