Hi, had a look for Robert Tainsh but couldn't find him. However if he was born in Edinburgh his father may be David Tainsh (Tansh) a tailor who married in 1759 and again in 1772. He had a daughter Margaret who married a Robert Duncan in 1795. Do you have any idea of Robert's occupation?
