I don't have any ancestry from this area but, my ex-husbands GG Uncle settled the Mckinney area. But, I am not researching him. Do you live close enough to visit the cemeteries here in Allen. Some of the Tombstones look quite old but, I have never gone into any of them. Thanks again for the Welcome. Marie
Thank you!! That was really kind of you!! I need to 'visit' here more! I just started a blog, www.familytreewriter.com. I'd love suggestions, and also to know how to add my blog web address to this site. Thanks, Sherry!
Thanks for the birthday "card." My sister has already sung the birthday dirge to me. To the tune of the Volga Boatmen:
Happy Birthday. Happy Birthday.
Misery and despair,
People dying everywhere,
On your Birthday.
Happy birthday.
The older I get the harder I laugh. Weird, ne'cest pas? I better with my family history and lipid profile.
Thank you for the welcome
I'm just getting started with this site. I was on the phone with a lady from World Vital Records, and she suggested this site, so here I am

Thank you for the welcome. I'm hoping that I'll find the information I'm searching for. It takes a lot of searching but hopefully I'll find what I'm looking for. Have a great day!
My McGillivray line goes back in Ontario, Canada to Isabella McGillivray where in 1875 she married Thomas McInnes. She appears to have been born in Canada abt. 1857 with her parents as John McGilvray & Mary McEacheron. She may have had a brother, Daniel McGillivray. All pretty common names and because of the limited documentation of the time difficult to trace.
Thanks for the link! The avatar is from a Scottish heritage society of which I am a member. The Gaelic around the border translates to Clans of the Highlands in english. I can't take credit for it. I'm not nearly as gifted in the artist category as you are. I'm sure you would have spotted the "of the" in the center before you allowed it to leave the presses.
My Nash's are all originally from Maine - back to 1700's - then to California in the mid 1850's. Hopefully someday I'll have interesting stories like yours to tell about my kin!! Neat stuff!
Thank you for the birthday greetings! I'm heading to England tomorrow to do some "on-site" explorations of where some of my grandparents came from. Should be fun!
Hello Sherry,
I would like to thank my friend, Kerry, for leading me to this site.
I have been doing family genealogy since 1970 and, within the last year and a half - I have found my cousins in Greece and also my six half-siblings' Greek father's cousins in America. In addition, I am now in contact with my mother's long lost Carlin cousins who live in the U.S. I was just connected with my mother's biological father's cousin, also. Looking forward to viewing this entire website. Thanks!!!
Thank you for the warm welcome. I have hit the proverbial brick wall on my father and 40 years of research has turned up zero concrete leads.
When my mother learned he was already married with another family, we emigrated from England to the USA while I was only 5 years old. She never spoke of him with information that could be used to help my research. If the few tidbits she imparted can be believed, he was born circa 1902 in either England or Scotland. His father was Scots and mother English. He was in the Home Guard and may have been a stonemason or plumber. He may have had 13 siblings of which he supposedly was the youngest. I belong to Ancestry.Com as an international member and have pored over all available records w/o success. My short and long form birth certificates provide no clues to help my search. I fear I will never find the answer and none of my children caught the genealogy bug yet. My daughter has expressed a little interest but has never performed any research.
So, there is my story and my brick wall. Through the years I have been successful in helping many others find information and it galls me to be so ineffective on my own behalf.
Thanks for the welcome!! I have no idea what I'm doing -- very new to this. I'm taking a genealogy class at our local junior college which starts in a couple of weeks. I thought this site might help in some way.
Hello Sherry,
Thank you for the warm welcome. This is my third time on GW and all of this is new to me. So, everyone have a little patient with me as I learn the ropes.
Thanks again.
