    Hi Anja
My name is Heather laverty and I see where you have photograped some of the cemeteries around Ballarat. I wonder if you have done any at Amherst Vic as I have a GG Aunt Dorcas Pankhurst she was died at Back Creek Amherst in 1860 and is buried in Amherst Cemetery. Also my GG Grandfather Joseph Pankhurst died in Geelong Vic in 1865 and is buried in the English cemetery Geelong. I have the exact location of his grave.. I was wondering if you had pictures of either of their graves . Have nod idea if they had headstones or not. Heather Laverty

    Hi there Anja

You are definitely treading in my area now as I am always on the look out for the BATTEN family, all of who were residents of the Ballarat area.
The Battens I refer to are the Father and Son combination that set up the Ballarat Institute and managed it for over 90yrs between them.
To date I have yet to find their graves and final resting places.
On this off chance you may be able to help?

    Hi Anja
Thank you for your message. Yes that is my GG Grandfather Joseph Pankhurst. I used to think he would have died in SA because that it where he got married but hadn't been able to find out anything about his death until Geneology wise picked up his death in Victoria I am pretty sure that is him seeing Doras died in Victoria. He seems to have spent a lot of time travelling between SA and Vic. Do you know if he has a tombstone or anything. I hope to visit SA about march next year and thought I would have a look at his grave also Dorcas if I can find out where they are. Joseph is a many of mystery lol on his wedding records and also his death certificfate it doesn't show any parents but thanks to his death certirficate I have found out where he came from in England. I have not been able to find out yet whe he came to Australia or how all I have been able to find out that he arrived before 1842 because he was married in Adelaide the first time but his wife died in 1845 and he married my GG grandmother Mawry Purdy in Adelaide in 1847 she died in SA about 30 years after Joseph. Have found out where and when she arrived. Thanks for all your help. Geneakogywise is such a wonderful site there are so many people willing to help. Heather

Hi Anja. I just r3ead your message again . I never notice before you saying he is probably in an unmarked grave. That is par for the course with him . I thought I would be able to fine out a bit more information if he had a headstone. On his death certificate it doesn't state his wife's name even just that he was married. Heather

Hi Anja. thank you for you message it was very helpful I would never have thought about doing that and asking those questions. I must see if I can find an address forf the Geelong cemetery and I will have a look at the website. I have only been doing this family tree since the beginning of the year so still have an awful lot to lean and not knowing too much about computers doesn't help also. I have been able to find out a lot more about the Pankhurst family then about 4 others who have been trying it sor years and had given up because like me they have hit one brick wall after the other. It is mainly this genology wise with such helpful like you that I have been able to find out what I have. Once again thank you for your help. Heather
  • Heather McIntosh

Hi Anja, I'm not sure about the area you stated but anything is possible. It hasn't come up in my family line ...as yet anyway. Always worth asking though, isn't it. I have a friend called Madeline who has McIntosh family links there though.
