Wayne,
Thank you so much on all the Rah's you supplied me with. Wow, I didn't realize there were that many Rahs from that many countries and spelled like my line, Rah. I now must start my research and see who is who.
Thank you again. I truly appreciate it.

Thank you! I'm pretty sure David Sands died in 1923, so I looked for a Sadie Sands in 1930 and found one living in Sanford, Maine by herself. My mom thinks Sadie sent her children to live with other people after David died... so it might be her. But thank you for looking! This is all so overwhelming!
i Wayne, I really must change my profile, I'm confusing everyone. I usually put M. Denise (that's the name I'm known by), but thought, since it is a genealogy site, I would put in my full name, but all it's done is confuse things!
Now, some answers: last question first - new.familysearch will be THE site to go to first when it is completed. It has over a billion or so names, linked into families, pedigrees etc., with the ability to add, change, dispute, combine, and in many cases contact others who have contributed information. Some of the well known genealogy programmes are working toward being linked to it, so you can add and download information from your programme. At present, I think, Rootsweb is 'in', and Legacy is working on it.
But, for now, go to www.familysearch.org. From there you can get into other sites which are pretty good, too. It is from this site that you can find out where your nearest Family History Centre is located, with hours, and contact phone numbers etc. It costs $5 to hire a film, and you can have it in the Centre for up to three months for that charge. All you are really paying for, nominally, is the postage. Sometimes you have to wait for the film to come from Salt Lake and it may take a month or so. It has been a bit slow lately because so much effort is being put into digitilizing records to go on line (Then again, it could be back in a week). There is no obligation or charge to use any of the Centres' facilities, or the staff's expertise.
The Centres have microfilm/microfiche readers where you view your film or microfiche (fiche stay in the Centre permanently - they are VERY cheap - and you can view them at any time, films must be returned at the end of the hire period). If you have the good fortune to have a large Centre near you, they may have a microfilm photocopying machine, in which case you can get copies of the pages/records you want (last cost I know of was $3 for the first three pages, $1 per page thereafter up to a maximum of 10). This is a MUCH cheaper way of getting copies of certificates or church records, I think you will agree. Failing that, I usually just copy out by hand the information I want, or you are permitted to try and photograph them from the microfilm reader screen.
Whew! I think I've answered everything. Keep an eye out for special activities in the week 1st to 9th August. Activities will be posted on www.familyhistoryweek.org.au. Denise
Hi Wayne, Again you saved my day. Thank you soooo much. Both sites are excellent. The Rahs just kept tumbling out! Oh, how great! Now to go back and look at what's there.
I really do appreciate everything you've done. Oh, and I won't forget to bookmark. :~)
Hope your Friday has been great!
Patty
Wow! How do you come up with all these? I belong to Ancestry.com and Rootsweb is an extension of them, but to get to that last extension is the key to the lock. Most of the time I'm running around with my keys locked in the car. :~)
Again, thank you so very much for your valuable time.
Hi, I am having a terrible time trying to locate any information on my husband's Danish ancestors. Surname KROGH John Lorenz. b. 1854 Aabenraa (Apenrade) Denmark. Any direction to finding Danish records would be great. Thanks Lola
Thank you for your suggestion Wayne. I looked briefly at site .It looks interesting. My Carters/and Higgins came out in 1879 on Northampton. They married on arrival in Sydney. Its really the Leiscestershire lot I am after. I will keep in touch.
Regards Jennifer.
Hi Wayne, thank you for the Patten/Thomas lookups. Lots of possibilities there, and I'll be sure to comb through them all in the highest detail where possible.
Hi Wayne,
Thank you for your Seward lookups. I have searched this site previously with no candidates that jump out as being the one.
I have Robert Shueard's death certificate. I also have 4 birth certificates of the 11 children. Unfortunately S.A do not put birth place of parents on these certificates as they did in Victoria.
Convict 1198 in Tasmania-ex Royal George was Robert Seward and he has certain similarities to our Robert, including the fact Robert was charged in S.A along with 3 other ex convicts over stolen oxen. (Found not guilty). However there is no definitive proof that the two are one.
Regards,
Ross
Hi Wayne. Thank you for Purdy Pankhurst lookups.. I have found the marriage records for Mary Rebecca Pankhurst .I must try and find out when she died and see if I can get her death certificate hopefully that will tell me where she was born. According to the age on her marriage records and going by the age on my G Grandgather Walters marriage certificate which I have they seem to have been born the same year. I don't think I have much chance of geting his death certificate as he cleared off one day when the kids were all small and was never seen again, They don't know if he fell down an old unused mine shaft near Kadina or not. I have been told a death certificate was issued for hom when his wife died in 1939, but don't know how true that is. Once again would like to thank you this is a very helpful site and am starting to understand it better now. I don't know too much about computers but amd learning that also. heather Laverty
Thank you for all the nice complements about my site. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. As for Finest, think I have a lead for parents. I am working on it now. Will post more information this weekend when I get it all put together.
LOL Wayne - thought I was in trouble there in the first instance I noticed you sent me a comment.
Send me the information to the email address I left for Heather and I will get back to you. I do have a register for Ballarat but not personally worked on that cemetery.
The name BATTEN does not ring a bell but I still have thousands and thousands of photos yet to be indexed
Sometimes there is no other option than to purchase the death certificate - were are you located ?
