Russ, sorry, I'm the only Reeves in my line in New Jersey (that i'm aware of).

    Hi Russ,
I'm glad you found me so quick. These social networking sites grow so quickly. I'd be thrilled if you would go become a fan of my Generation Maps group. Thanks.
  • Cindy Johnston Sorley

Hi, We have a Johnston Group formed if you are interested. Just look under Groups and type in Johnston

Russ, I got my copy of FTM 2010 yesterday and installed it today. When I tried to import my tree from Ancestry.com the file came through but when I went to see the images, all there is what looks like a magnifying glass over a book. I have done everything that I cn think of. Do you have any suggestions.

    Joyce,

    What is the Image of?

What happens when you click on the magnifying glass?

I went into control panel, clicked on Uninstall program, the list came up, scrolled down to FTM 2008, clicked uninstall, the wizard for FTM came up, clicked on remove, supposedly it went thru process, said it was done, then clicked on finish. Went back to program list via control panel, and FTM 2008 still there. Then I tried to remove 2009, same thing happened.

I have Vista, and as far as I can tell, I am the administrator.

Happy Birthday, Russ. Have a great day.

I am a new FTM 2010 user. I hate learning new programs, I would still be using 2005 if I could have found the disc for it after reformatting my computer. Having said that - how do you copy a generated genealogy report (or anything) to a .doc or .pdf format to make personal changes and to use in an "outside" manner.

    Janet
  • Janet Buchanan

Tell me how to start a new discussion. I have tried just what you said. I opened it as a html - couldn't seem to make changes. I don't think one can make changes to a PDF. It seemed it only wanted me to make changes in another ftm form or gedcom - I am not savvy enough to know how to do some of these things, but I don't think a gedcom will help me. I used to just "copy" and "paste" - heaven forbid they keep it simple. Janet
  • Janet Buchanan

Thank you, Russ. That worked. I didn't really know what RTF was. Next time I will start a New Discussion. Janet
  • Janet Buchanan

OK - me again. I went to http://www.genealogywise.com/group/familytreemakerusers - I hate to be a dummy, but for me there is a dark green line with all sorts of possibilities - NOT Start Discussion. There are too many pages to this thing.

Anyway, I got the genealogy report to my documents. I had trouble getting the page divisions off, but finally did (after I deleted what I didn't want in it). Then as I was scrolling down, I realized they had changed everyone who might be living, to "living." Now, I told them I felt that the changes were all geared to putting stuff online - which I am not interested in doing - at this point, but that was beyond. So now, I will have to go in and manually add all those names back in to produce a report for a friend. Unbelievable. Janet
  • Janet Buchanan

Hi - Thanks for bearing with me. I finally found the New Discussions - they were at the bottom of the page, not the top.

Privatize?? Not that I know of. I went back and don't see where I could privatize, even if I wanted to. The other problem is getting rid of all the headers and footers because I am deleting all the sources for this report. It is a PAIN. There must be an easier way. I am still studying this. Janet
  • Janet Buchanan

Hey, I think I just figured out how to make the report, with no sources, etc. Yea!!! Janet
  • Russell Ivens Parsons

thank you for answering I think I have found the problem for some reason myaccount at ancestry is under one name (the right one ) and familytree is under a different name that i have never seen until today
  • Russell Ivens Parsons

Russ , thanks for your answer. I think i have found the problem for some reason family tree has a wrong user name in it it has apart of my email address that is not what i use for ancestry now i just need to figure how to change it so that they are in sink have any idea on how to do that ?
  • Mary Beth

Hello. I saw your profile and noticed that you are researching the surname Worthington from PA. I also have Worthington lines, from PA, particularly Bucks County. Maybe, there's a connection. Mary Beth

I still use FTM11, I don't like the more complicated newer versions, since Ancestry took over, but since I tried to load a Book Jan. 1st, I still get the message :

"You have already uploaded an item that is currently being formatted. You will not be able to upload another item until this is done. Formatting takes approximately 15 minutes,"

I have got that message for 3 weeks now, I can't upload any reports. Genealogy.com support won't help me, because of my old version. It worked fine up until now ? You have helped me a few years ago Russ, Any suggestions other than buying FTM 2012 ?

  • Brian Paul Ridgell

    Russ,

My old FTM11 doesn't have an advanced box, but I go to Ftw.ini in Notepad, and I had already put in HostName=familytreemaker.genealogy.com

I can add HTML files, but cannot load reports anymore. I get that same message. I tried uploading an internet tree, and it gave me the same message, but appeared it on my site, as an update, but didn't work, so I deleted it. I guess they have have a major problem at their end, and won't fix it.

  • Brian Paul Ridgell

I tried emailing them, the Kevin there wouldn't help, he said they no longer support FTM11

  • Brian Paul Ridgell

Russ, I told them that the problem wasn't with my FTM, but on their end, and Kevin still said I had to upgrade because they no longer support FTM11. And I wrote back several times, but got the same answer, upgrade tp 2012.

  • Brian Paul Ridgell

    Russ,

Kevin still wouldn't nelp me. I told him the problem wasn't with my FTM11, but at their end. He just told me to upgrade because they no longer support FTM11. We went around and around, in several emails,  and he kept giving me the same answer, he couldn't help me unless I upgrade.

  • Brian Paul Ridgell

    Thanks Russ,

I will try that, I think they know they have problems with the Home pages, and just haven't dealt with it yet.
