No the other Ayer's in our family are in Rochester area. Family Crest question, our (Ayer) family crest has three chevrons on it, but I have been told that also one version has three sailboats on it. Can you or anyone else shed some light on this?
I did see your picture...you look wonderful! Dean and i will have to make a trip down there to see you! We will also be in town over the July 4th weekend, doing a living history at the PA Monument for the NPS. Maybe we can see you then?
Hi Jim, sorry, I don't think I have any Averys. My Comfort line married into the Eberhard family. They were all pretty much in Lehigh County, PA. I'll keep an eye out, though, and let you know if I find anything!
Jim - Is the chat room acting up tonight? I log into the site and it shows that I'm online, but there is nothing showing that says how many are in chat. And when I open it up, it shoots me to offline and I can't get it to put me back online again.
Just wondering if it's the room, or my computer causing the problem. Thanks!
I will be there as time allows. Trying to build a new schedule around my genealogy, communications director for my Kiwanis club, coordinator of a group in creative writing, team bowling and dodging the frailties of 83 years old of fast living. Genealogy is still in my genes and I will work out a schedule. -- Former GFS Chuck of AOL Genealogy Forum.
Also doing work on my TROXLER and GRAHAM lines and am a member of the Antonio MOLINO (MULLINS) lines. Antonio worked in the vineyards for Thomas JEFFERSON and served in the Rev. War and War of 1812 as Anthony MULLINS and later moved to Tennessee.
You are probably the first person I hav found with any Bartels connections, this is awesome. I have little to zero knowledge on my Bartels ancestors, but here is what I have:
My great great grandmother Veronica Wilhelmina Bartels (b1863 in New York) married John Thomas Wilde. They had two children Francis Middleton Wilde and John Thomas Wilde Jr.
I have two photos (taken years apart) of Francis and John with two cousins (one male one female) the female cousin is listed as Daisy Bartels.
I also know she had a nephew named Dirk Bartels, who served in the military.
If any of these names look familiar I would love to learn what you know. Looking forward to talking with you.
I found this while searching for my Hunkins clan...I know you said yours are NOT from Groton but maybe a relative? Looks like these are descendents of his that ended up in Waukesha,WI

Hi Jim, Just did a double check to see if I had any Nichols in PA. My husband's Nichols clan is all from Virginia and later West Virginia. They pretty much settled in one area and stayed there, Nicholas county and surrounding areas. Some made it out to Kansas for a while but I think they all came back to the mountains.
Hi Jim, Thanks for the note. Sorry for the delay in response. Yes, I did make the York show. It was in April. Are you still talking to the spirits? How is Stormy? Weather is hot and dry in Big Lick.
Hi Jim! You didn't scare me off. I lost my internet connection and then got distracted. I am also having a problem getting into the Chats. I sent you a Friend Invitation last night. I would like it if you would accept. Thanks Jim, Lisa
Hi Jim, Thank you for the welcome. I have just began. My Great Grandfather was Jesse E West, who died in Kansas 1890. I have traced him back to Springhill, Fayette County, PA as son of Phineas West and Lidia Lewellen. Phineas had quite a large family of his own. I just read in another forum that Phineas Father might be Nathaniel West and Mary Everly from Monongalia Co WV, have not verified yet. I think Nathaniel's birthplace was New Jersey. All I know for now. Again thanks for the welcome. You never know when paths may cross.
Hi Jim, am not familiar with Charles McCown (except for living relatives ie: cousin and great nephew). Who was his ancestor? My husband's family descended from Francis mcCown that came to America under the Borden Tract.
Very touching letter! We actually have no blood link to the Ballous. My husband thought he was a Ballou untill he was told otherwise at the age of 21. So I never have researched the Ballou name.
I do not have any genealogy connections to Gettysburg. I have always wanted to go there and decided about three years ago that it was time. What a beautiful place. I do plan on going there again someday. I have taken a couple of the ghost tours as well, which I have also enjoyed.
I don't have anything YET on Perrys in New England; however, I do have one of my Perry's who married a Horton, whose dad was born in Long Island, and then moved down into SC. I've just started research that link that far back. That would be mid 1700s when they were in New England. What time frame are you looking for?
You might check out the Great Wagon Road. Lots of people took that from PA to NC/SC. It's possible there is a start to the Great Wagon Road up in NY. Just a thought...
I'm always on the lookout for more information. I'm the State Genealogist for the Colorado DAR, so I stumble on things all the time as I'm researching other people's lines. I'll definitely keep a watch out.

Thanks Jim !! My great grandfather John Henry Collins (1848-1913), was States Attorney for N.C. from 1878 to 1886. He was born free in Norfolk , Va. His mother was a free black woman and his father was an ANGLICIZED French Jew. Therefore his fathers name Henry Collins was most definitely a Jewish alias All 8 of my g grandparents were of racially mixed parentage. I was accepted into the Sons of the Amer. Rev. through my 5 greats grandfather Jacob Strawn (1717-1800) All best !!
all the mudd's are related in the US, now for the other side of the story lincoln was related to the mudd's, Elizabeth Ann Lincoln Mudd was the granddaughter of Capt. Abraham Lincoln. He was also the name sake and the grandfather of President Lincoln
So I am a first cousin sixth removed of the president
Hey, buddy! I miss you! Once in a while I hear from Chuck. He's not moving from NH. I get to visit my grandson at least weekly, so we enjoy being in Mass. Lately I have been working on my son-in-law's family tree which has taken me to Fayetteville, PA and then to Harrison and Marion Counties, West Virginia, with names of Danley and Christner, Moore and Powell, Cottrill and Lawson. Bunch of coal miners. One fellow, Jacob Christner, served in the 3d Maryland Inf., Potomac Home Brigade, in the Civil War. The Christners hail from Elklick, Somerset, PA.
How does one learn about topic specific chats? Also, is there a "Genealogy Wise for Dummies" tutorial online somewhere so I can learn how to get the most out of this treasure trove website?
Thanks for the in-vite. Trouble is, the computer is in our son's room and he doesn't appreciate company after a hard day's work. I'll try, tho. Roberta
What time in the UK is 9 pm Eastern? Also, I'm not very good at chat pages least of all on Facebook. But I will look in now and then. Anyone with the name Magnus can look me up however.
Thank you for your message...I love talking about family connections, it is amazing how many families are interconnected with one another... I found I was working with a cousin who was from my grandfather's mothers side of the family...I couldn't believe it!!! It has been so much fun and frustration at times, but the end results more than compensate for the energy and time put into finding out about your ancestry...
Thanks so much for letting me know about the discussion group.... I would love to participate but am currently having health issues so don't know if I will be able to do so anytime soon.
