To obtain more help from people, in your specific posts, please include first names, years of birth, etc. I found several Furcht entries, but to pin down the right one, I'd need to know his given name(s), age, etc. Email me directly karlmsala@msn.com Although his name may have been Frederick or Friedrich, he probably had at least one additional given name. Do you know it?
  • Karl-Michael SALA

Thank you for having provided by direct email his other given names. Based on what you gave, with at least 3 positive points, I conclude that I have indeed found your target immigrant ancestor the NY Passenger List! For more details, please see my direct email in reply to yours.

Sandy, it's all in the proof. This isn't always an easy process. I thought my Doolittle line would be the one that would get me into DAR. But it wasn't. Doolittle lineage is well documented and I had the lineage from my great grandfather going back to the first Abraham Doolittle who came to this country in 1638. I had my birth certificate, my dad's birth certificate and my grandfather's death dertificate and my great grandfather's death certificate. We could ties everthing back to one Benjamin Doolittle from Litchfield, Conn. (There was also a cousin Benjamin who was on the pension roles, but not my Benjamin). The Registrar of the chapter I wanted to join searched for information on my Benjamin, but was not able to show how he may have supported the cause with his mills, etc. so I couldn't use that line. I have a line of Newmans and a document showing them going back to the Revolutionary War, however that generation is cloudy and we are related to one of the Newmans who fought in the war but don't know which one. So that crossed out that line. Then we tried the Gary line. My grandmother's grandmother was a Gary. The Gary line is well documented down to my grandmother in a booklet that has since been put online. DAR keeps copies of all documents provided as proof and they also had this document. I provide my proof up to my great great grandmother. There were two other DAR members that claimed the same line I had so their documentation was shared.
I have since found another line where there is proof of the Patriot, however, now I have to prove my lineage to that Patriot.

What I suggest you do is sit down and list your lineage tracing back to your Patriot. Now you don't have to have your lineage come directly through the male of the familiy. Mine for example: father-Robert; grandmother-Ella Mae Newman; g grandfather-George Alfred Newman; gg grandmother-Phoebe Gary; Charles ainsworth Gary; Charles Gary; Enos Gary (my patriot). Once you've done this, you need to collect your proof in whatever you can find: birth certificates, death certificates, marriage licenses, census lists... Hi Sandy, Thanks for writing.

My great-grandmother was Edna May Shores b. July 27, 1876 d. April 15, 1954 md. Charles Frederick Burton.

Anyways, all that I have so far is that her father was – James Frank Shores born March 14, 1858 married to Sarah Royal

James’ father was Henry Shores born 1829 married to Sarah E. Stephens

Henry’s father was David Shores born Abt. 1783 married to Mary M. (maiden name unknown)

I don’t know where David was born but the rest were all born in New Jersey. Do any of these Shores tie in with your line?
  • Nancy Bonham Wojcik

Sandy, How very sad to have lost your mother when you were so young (as was she) but what a wonderful tribute you are giving her by tracing her family lines.

I noticed that her middle name was Mae. May was the middle name of my great-grandmother and great-aunt. I love looking at the middle names. Sometimes you can find where it came from - another relative etc.

Feel free to use my email address or pass it on it's Nawojcik@aol.com. As I find Shores info or if anyone is interested in anything I have - marriage dates etc. I will be more than happy to share.

    Hi Sandy,

Unfortunately I know very little about James Frank Shores. He would have been my gr-great grandfather. He was the son of Henry Shores and Sarah E. Stephens and brother of William. He married Sarah Royal b August 30, 1852. They married on October 26, 1875 in Bridgeton, Cumberland Co., NJ. They had one daughter - I can't find if they had other children - buth their daughter was Edna May Shores b. July 27, 1876. She was born in Bridgeton, Cumberland Co., NJ and married Charles Frederick Burton he came from England and settled in New Jersey. They had 9 children - one of whom was my grandmother. We are in Illinois but most of the Burton's are still in Bridgeton, Cumberland Co., New Jersey. My greataunt Hannah Burton lived in the Burton family house (in Bridgeton) until her death in 1977. She willed the house to a great-niece who ended up selling it. I have the address somewhere but I can't put my hands on it at this exact moment.

Back to James Frank Shores - I can't even find when he died. There is very little information on his that I have come across so far. The Shore family line has been my brick wall for many years and I only recently was able to tie in Henry etc. to my line with census records.

I'll keep you posted as I continue to "unearth" information.

    Sandy,
Thanks for listing the web site for Rev. War Books. I looked at it and it is great. Wish others would list similar sites that they have found on line. That would be a big help to all.

    Thanks again,

    Bill

Thanks for the information re/a John Hettich who died in Brooklyn, NY on 25 Nov 1899. I know of no such person in the line descended from Matthias Hettich. Matthias and Christina had 5 children but no John. There are a lot of Hettichs that settled in Brooklyn. Did your source list the parents names? I am really searching for more information about ancestors of the Hettich family in Germany and if you have sources then let me know. Thanks.
  • Sarah Coles

Thanks for the info. I did get some info about the Hettichs in the newspaper you mention through Ancestry.com. My tree is on that site. I have used Google books also in my searches. Sometimes it's a good source of information.

    Sandy -

I'm afraid that I won't be of any benefit to this group since I have no Shores ancestry. My Hoff/Huff family in Bradford Co., PA, married into the Shores family several times and I wanted to find out a bit more about them. Washington Beeman and his wife Ann Maria Huff had a dau., Betsey Maria Beeman (b. abt. 1842) who married Coryell Shores, son of Peter Shores and Johanna Green. They had two sons, Amby James Shores and Scott Vaughn Shores. I was hoping to learn more about Peter and Johanna Shores. Betsey Maria Beeman had a sister, Mary Eliz. Beeman, who married Relsman L. Shores in Jan. 1870. They had Alice, Ella May and Herbert. I would like to know more about Relsman Shores's ancestry. I could attach several pages of information I have on these families if I knew how to work this system, or if I had your e-mail address. Thanks for any help. HuffAnnMaria.rtf
