John - Everyday since I joined the site (on the first day) I have searched the surname BELLEW in the member listing to find other BELLEW researchers. So far, there are only three of us. I have traced my line to Drogheda and would love to share information. Kind Regards Cindy Curtin
John - the fact that you're also from Drogheda is a very big deal to me! Do you have any details or information on generations prior to yourself? I've put a friend request to you so we can communicate via messaging rather than comments. Once you approve the friend request I can send you messages to your genealogywise inbox (upper right of this screen shows incoming requests and your inbox). In the meantime, I've traced my Bellew line back to Drogheda to my 3rd Great Grandfather James Bellew, who married Catherine McDermott in Drogheda on Jan 10, 1861. They had a son Patrick in 1864, born in Drogheda (found on baptism records) and the family later relocated to Preston Lancashire England. There was also a connection to the Lawless family by one of James' uncles. From what I've learned by other researchers and just studying the families, the names James, John, William and Patrick were repeated in most generations. Since you're from Drogheda and I'm assuming generations before you were as well, there's a good chance that we'll have a connection. I would very much like to explore further. I look forward to hearing from you again. Regards -Cindy
Hi John,
My great grandmother was Mary Ann Bellew daughter of John Bellew and Mary Mathews. She was from Stalleen, Donore in Meath. There were a few Bellew families living in Stalleen - common names were John, William, Thomas, Patrick, James and Laurence. A group of brothers emigrated to the US in the 1800s. My Mary Ann married a Christopher Neary. There are so many Bellews around this area but i am struggling to make the connections.
