Elsie,
My Conibears start with the marriage of John Gould (Marwood) to Jane Conibear (East Down) at Marwood in 1781. Then the Conibears go back through Richard (Arlington 1721), Robert (Westleigh by Bideford 1687), Robart C (Westleigh 1660), John Conybeare, William (Westleigh 1620), William (Westleigh 1572), finally to Robert Conibeer who married Christine Deyman of Crediton in Westleigh 1572. Then I lose the scent.
The Gribbles intersect twice (so far). First at the marriage of William Gould (Marwood 1716--father of the John Gould above) to Agness Gribble at Marwood 1739. After that, I only have Agness' parents: John Gribble & Margaret Prance, marrying at Fremington 1708. However, I have another John Gribble marrying Mary Harris (Barnstaple 1610). Mary Harris was a daughter of Bartholomew Harris, mayor of Barnstaple.
Sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to you. It turns out that the first Robert Cann you mentioned (son of John and Jane 29 Jun 1829) was my GGGrandfather. I ended up hiring a professional genealogist through Ancestry to wade through the possibilities and eliminate those that didn't fit. Since then I have been able to trace the line back to John Cann born 1631 where the line gets murky and confused again. Another 200 years back! Thanks for your help. CC

I have the Conibears and Gribbles in Devon too...but farther back (1600s-1800s)...and they both connect to the Goulds--such a common name!
