Hi Sue, wish there were a match, but I don't see it right now. I have traced my English family back to Thomas English in East Gullane, County Kerry in the early 1800s....

As for the Haffey's, who knows. My John James Haffey was born in County Armagh (supposedly) in 1819. I haven't been able to find his parents, but he ends up on land that earlier belonged to a Michael Haffey in an area where a Bernard Haughey was awarded a military grant in Simcoe County Ontario Canada. I haven't found exactly when he arrived in Canada. I have collected a lot of information on Haffey families throughout the world, but don't seem to have Mary Brady and Patrick Haffey. I'd be happy to share anything I do have though so you can look for any connections to other know Haffey's

Yes, my Haffey's were definitely Catholic. In fact my G Grandfather Joseph Phillip (John's son) was a graduate of St. Micheal's in Toronto and we think probably supposed to be the family priest as he is the only one with a college education. He stayed on as a tutor for a few years and then emigrated to Michigan where he went to law school.

Quite a few Haffey's came over to Ontario (no ships records here either as it is still all part of the British Empire) in the years between 1820 and 1850 and we know some were cousins but have not been able to tie them together. I keep checking records in Armagh hoping something new will turn up, but to date no luck.
