    Hello Sue,

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner - we just got back from vacation and I did not have access to the internet.

Thanks for looking at the records - I knew that there is always a chance that info will not be found.

William Smith and Susan Ann Preston are the correct parents for Susan Ann Smith as they also immigrated to the US - I think they left before the 1871 census (I can't find them). I finally found William and Susan Smith in Walpole-St Peter on the 1861 Census - he claimed to have been born in Walsoken. Susan Ann Preston claimed to have been born in Tholomas Drove. On the 1851 census - William was in Salthouse working and Susan was in Walpole-St Peter with the children.

(I just looked again at the Wards on the 1871 census and I see that family 12 is Susan Preston - born in Tholomas Drove - supported by husband who lived in America)

I had researched this family many years ago and looking back - my notes were not the best. I think I will just start all over and order the Church Records on microfilm and view them at the FHC.

William Ward claimed to have been born in Tipps End on the 1871 census. It looks like this town is part of Welney??? http://www.welney.org.uk/Tipps_end.htm - I have not found him for sure on the 1861 census or the 1851 census. I am thinking that maybe I should see his if birth records are at St Mary's in Welney. There are several microfilm I can order.

Thanks again for your time - I will keep in touch.

Hi Sue, I came across some content you had on a Nicholas Troughton in Ulverston (Colton) on Ancestry in the library.  As I'm not a personal member of Ancestry I couldn't contact you there.

I suspect we might be interested in the same individual - I'm working hard on that now but don't seem to be finding the critical baptisms.

My 3x great grand-father was William Troughton b circa 1800 in Ulverston.  Father's name on a late-life marriage is Nicholas.

Do we connect, do you think?

    Regards

    Dawn Mills
