As far back as I can trace they are from Talbot County, Georgia. I see that yours are from Alabama. Talbot County is near the GA/AL line so it is possible there is some connection.
I have come across a few on Ancestry.com, mostly African-American and researching the Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee region. A couple seem to have done pretty extensive work on the Bunkley surname, but so far no brick walls have come smashing down for me. You might want to do a search of the Ancestry.com discussion boards if you haven't checked there already. I also have found quite a bit of information on the white Bunkley family/families, including some slave listings. One African-American researcher knows of a large Bunkley family reunion that occurs in Georgia (apparently not your 'typical' family reunion--this one is attended by genealogy buffs and there are documents, artifacts, etc. on display). Let me know if you're interested and I will dig up that information for you.
M. Henson,
My name is George W. Robertson in Louisville, Ky. and I just joined Genealogy Wise and am curious about the setup. Why was I assigned to your group.? Do you have a Robertson connection? What iis the deal on the gift pitch? I signed up for the Robertson surname group to hopefully find info on my first Robertson ancestor, Samuel, (ca 1744-1815) and who died in Washington County (Springfield), Ky. I am looking for Robertsons with a Kentucky background. Thanks
