Hi Anne, I have added your Ayrshire group to my list on 'Scotland and Scottish Ancestry'. I have also joined your group as I have a number of Ayrshire ancestors myself!
  • Jeannette Scott

My Ayrshire names are Barnes,Brown(Craigie & Muirkirk) Gault(Ireland & then Muirkirk 1830's-interested in any connection to Benjamin Gault & his daughter Mary Ann Brown nee Gault),

    Greer/Grier(St Quivocks),
Torrance(Andrew -Blacksmith husband of Margaret Barnes),
Robina McDowall(Girvan) but not sure of her parentage-think her mother is Agnes McQuath.Robina married David Ross in Greenock 1870.Her Mother was a handloom weaver.
Also Ann where are your Kerr's from? Any Irish(probably Donegal) & then Abbey Parish Paisley.

I have never been able to pinpoint a place of birth for Hugh Kerr but his son gives Donegal as pob in one of the C.ensuses.Hugh brought his six motherless children to Scotland & raised them remarrying on the way & taking on a step-son & seeing two of his little daughters from his second marriage die in childhood. He himself was killed in a mining accident aged 72! An engine ran over his person. He's one of my heroes & coincidentaly hias granddaughter's husband's Father also raised his own & his wife's son/niece after she died-now that's what I call Family values!
