I found you on a Dowd search, but I find you also have Bothwell in the list.... Just on an off chance, are your Bothwells in Ireland? We have just a hint of a William Bothwell Eakin b abt 1650 in Scotland, no clue yet on location of kids/grandkids, with any certainty, but his purported great grandkids are all being born in Derry. The upline may not be real, but it's the first time I've run across Bothwell in maybe Ireland, and I just had to ask.
May be a connection way back. William Bothwell Eakin had three known children: William, James and Samuel,. An Eakin ggrandson left Derry cir 1796, and was in western PA a few years later. His bro, my ancestor, followed a few years later. There are two gens between them and William Bothwell Eakin for which we only have names and rough dates. No places. Each gen had an eldest son Wm, although that's far from rare.
Protestant, yes. Several generations of Presbyterian ministers and missionaries in the last hundred and a half years.
