The Harrisons had long been in Wales, and the furthest back I've got back with them, as yet, is to George Harrison, the miller of a tiny village called Llanthony, where there was a famous Cistercian Abbey.
George was not born in Llanthony though; he was born in Neath in 1796.
From the rural surroundings of the Varteg Valley George's son, William, moved up high to Pwlldu iron works where he worked with the pit ponies. His son John became a coal pit inspector over in the coal mining valleys at nearby Varteg.
