Started down this path in with the idea of helping out my late father, but the more i did the less he did, so I eventually took over researching my family back to our roots in Peterborough.
Then he started writing a historical novel on the Manpr House he was living, and that ment I had to help out with this project, taking on as a family historian for a name of Lamberts, one Robert Lambert Mayor of London in 1597, and died in office, a very rare thing indeed.
So since then it's been on research project after another, but always checking out my own family links to the William Clayton, in Wood Ditton.
Now I have confirmed the link, with the Adlington Claytons, I am now trying to find out who was the very first Robert De ?? to take over the Clayton Manor in 1078's.
Have found out that one of William's Barrons a Ilbert de Lacy was given hugh swaths of land in Yorkshire and middlands, but not sure if this included the Hundred of Leyland?
As this was the Duke of Lancaster land come 1300, I am not so sure?
One thing is quite clear, and that is whoever took the Clayton Manor also took the Clayton name as his own!
