Lately I have been thinking about my Dad's father. He passed away when I was seventeen, and although I had known him all that time, I haven't appreciated something wonderful about this quiet man.
I called him Nono, the Italian word for grandfather. I remember him as someone who sang Italian songs softly, and told the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. I would beg for this story until he would acquiesce, telling it the same way over and over, making his voice sound mean when…

He came to this country in the early 1900's looking for work and a new way of life for his wife and four children. My great-grandfather, Pietro…

James W. French was possibly born in New York in 1821 his father James French was born in New Fairfield Conn in 1798 and moved to Bradford Co. PA as a boy with his family. He may have lived in New York City where he moved after fighting in the War of 1812. He is said to have worked as a printer although we have no proof this particular James French we found in Ward 4 is our ancestor. So here I follow the two James French's and I loose them in New York. May your day have been joyous and fulfilling. May your new year be even better.
Remember your fellow man and we are all to treat each other as belonging to us.
We need to remember the Reason for the SEASON, not just the day, or the week or the month.
May our next year be genealogical fulfilling and family improving.

I was speaking with a friend the other day about my observations of some of the people that I work with, explaining that for some people, there is a melancholy in their recollections of the past and where they are today. My friend told me how much she loved that word, ‘melancholy’ and how distinctly different it is from the current usage of the word ‘depression.’
I…
