My ggg grandmother, Mary Boggs Blevins(Riley) father was John Boggs, son of James P. and Aretta Boggs..John was born ca 1831 and died 3-17-1880, after being hung and shot(WHY?) by Underwood Regulators in Carter or Lawrence County, KY(with his friend, last name Binion)..John was married to Malinda (Stephens)..I also read at one point and time that John filed for citizenship in the U S so he would not get sent to the rez...I would appreciate any info on this grandfather..he is one of my two elusive grandpas that just fascinate me!!...the other is Columbus Parker, father of my grandma, Pearl Parker Blevins(James).......Thank You.......

Where are your Boggs and Blevins? You might check Eastern Tn if you don't already have them. I see you have Lawrence Co Ky but the Blevins name and the Boggs name are in Tn/Va a lot. to get to Ky, most went through the Cumberland from Tn/Va.

Just a thought.
Hi Brenda-

Do you have John, Malinda and Mary on census records? I see them on the 1860 census with a lot of other Boggs Households. They are in Carter County, KY. In 1870 they are still in Carter County, KY, but Mary is not in the household, I'm assuming she is already married to Riley Blevins?

Was John Boggs in the Civil War?
Hi Kate..Just wanted to say thanks for all the Civil War info I have found..in fact, just finding out my John Boggs was in the Civil War is great..This is my elusive ggg grandpa and he's my fascination..lol..Since finding out his unit and info he served with, I have read about the battles he no doubt participated and all..........
I do have that info...I also read some on another site ..a long article that included other people that had dealings with things..GeorgeV tv something...it escapes me at this point...lol ...I don't know much about Regulators and such..why would they do such a thing..that has been my question...a cousin says because John gave a cow to a family that was hungry and they were a family of color-red? black? ...I don't know.....thanks for the info
Hi Gene..I started one reply and the electric went off so I will begin again.....I am going to check out the info you sent..thank you....From what I understand the Regulators were-on the most part-those "law abiding" citizens that wanted law their own way...lol...Malinda Stephens Boggs died in Scioto County in 1918...Mary Boggs Blevins, Malinda and John's daughter, was married to my gg grandpa, Riley Blevins, and lots of the Blevins' family live(d) on Twin Creek...basically Scioto County/Adams County line...As far as John Boggs' citizenship..this is what I was told by family members...Once again, thanks for info..
Hi Gene..I am positive that Malinda in Ohio is my ggg grandma and I have spent time today reading about the battles and such that John Boggs participated in no doubt..I took the info you gave me and found all kinds of wonderful stuff...technology can be good sometimes...thanks
