Edward Reid, lived in Cherokee county Kansas abt 1900

I have not been able to locate an Ed or Edward Reid in Cherokee county in 1900. I have also searched Crawford county thinking that he might have been picked up on the census there if he was working at a mine there. A friend told me tonight that I should possibly try to locate him on records kept by the Bureau of Mines, which was either a state or federal entity, and required miners to have some tiype of card showing they were certified I guess.

After looking at the census printouts which I didn't have in front of me when I submitted the post, my grandfather was listed as William Reid. It is located on sheet 8B which is McClung street Mineral City, Cherokee county Kansas. He is listed with his grandparents Joseph and Margaritte Thompson at the top of the page denoted as #173.

On the 1920 census he was living with his mother on sheet 15A town of Cherokeee on Larch street located in Sheridan township Crawford county denoted as #329 and is very illegible in places, but you can make out the names if you look carefully. He is listed as William Thompson there. In the column that shows birthplace of the father it is very faint but appears to say England. I do not currently have a copy of my grandfathers death certificate as it was lost in one of my moves several years ago and I haven't replaced it because I dont remember it having any conclusive information about his father, only his mother.

I am not sure if I have a printout showing where my grandfather was living in 1930, at which time he was married to my grandmother which he had married in 1924.

Rumor or hearsay from my grandmother who was told by my grandfather that his father Edward Reid was supposed to have been born in Kentucky, and the 1910 census shows that in fact he was born in Kentucky if one can trust that the census taker was diligent to get good answers to his questions.

My grandfather's mother was named Elizabeth Jane Thompson, born about 6 August 1880 and came to America by steamship with her parents in 1882 who had lived in Northumberland shire in England. After giving birth to my grandfather, she met another man named Taylor and she gave birth to a girl named Margaret who took the name Taylor her entire life until marriage.. .

My grandfather was born at Scammon Kansas at the home of his aunt, Margaret Ann (Thompson) Atwood. I located the registration in the Cherokee county records many years ago, and he was born 8 Oct 1900, which was after the census was taken in 1900.
I am aware of the 1904 History of Cherokee County and have searched the book, as well as the index which has been put online by a couple of friends on the Kansas GenWeb Project.
I know that my grandfather's mother and father were never married. I am also 99 percent sure that his mother never married the Mr. Taylor either, but have very little information on him also, but I will tackle that at another time. Her family may know more about him than I do, since he is related to them and not me, however I am one of the few if not one who is doing research now.
My great great grandparents did come in 1882, and I think I located the ship passenger record for them, but my memory is kind of fuzzy at the moment. The ship passenger record you found in 1908 was when they returned from a trip to England when they went over to take care of some family business I think, perhaps a family member died and their affairs needed to be taken care of. Joseph naturalized in Crawford county at the courthouse in Girard, and I located that record many years ago. They were living in Crawford county at the time, and had not moved to West Mineral until around 1894 or so.
My grandfather started working in the coal mines when he was 14 I think. He was never drafted nor joined the service, and he was an only son so he did his best to take care of his mother.
