Stuck at a great grandfather, Charles R. Wright. Sources have him born in Indiana or Michigan around 1860. Father and mother were named Eli and Eliza according to one record. I have found a family in 1860 census (Indiana) who are Eli and Eliza who have a son, Riley. His middle name could have been Riley. But the family disappears in the next census. I pick up Charley Wright in the early 1900's which is the correct Charley (shows my grandfather as his son).

Would like to trace Charles back to his family so we can then go back farther.

Gene found the following records, I believe the minor application is the most interesting for you- you may try order:ing the pension file and see who applied for the pension

I found the pension record. James Wright applied for the pension 26 Feb. 1879. If it is his son James, he would not be a minor. Minor could be a catch all category other than invalid and widow.

Looks like this is the correct Eli.
Great! :)
Hi John-

Do you know when Elizabeth died? Since Gene and I have not found Elizabeth on the pension index and that a 9 year old Albert is in a poor house, I'm guessing its possible she died prior to Eli enlisting(possible reason for him to enlist?)
or she died before 1870?
No, don't have Eliza's death. The lack of information about this family is what makes it so difficult, we don't even know for sure it is my ggrandfather's family...but it sure looks good.

I am not sure where on orders the pension record. But that sounds like a good idea. Looks like a minor ordered it.
Albert would have been just about 18 in 1879.
Good morning John-
I found Eli, Elizabeth, James, John and David in 1850 in Harrison Township, Union County, Indiana.
I believe I found Mary Ann Wright, who was seven in 1860, she was working as a domestic servant in Buchanan, Berrien County, MI in 1870, age 16.

I found a marriage record for James Wright to a Bertha Lacy in 1890, should be his second marriage, but it indicates it was his first, parents were Eli Wright and Elizabeth King.

I found John Wright, wife Kate with daughters Dora, Mabel and Lucy in 1900, in Hinton, Mecosta, MI. Also found a marriage record for Mabel, indicates her parents were John Wright and Kate Mitchell.

i found marriage records for Dora and Lucille, let me know if you'd like them. John and Kate lived throughthe 1930 census. In 1910, a son Fred appears, he was born in 1902, so I'm assuming they adopted a son?

I personally would try posting the info we are finding on Eli and Charles' siblings on a couple of surname forums and see if anyone else is researching these Wrights.

Kate, I am typing up a decription of what you have found. Should I post the info. under each of the children's names or under Eli and Elizabeth?

Yes I would like the information the information on John's daughters.

If I don't respond to any emails for a while it is because tomorrow I will be going to Ireland for a couple weeks. Anxious to get back into this when I get back.
HI John-

I would list each of Eli and Elizabeth's children, then the information we have for each child, including who they married and their children- I will post the information I found on John's children. I also found a record on Family Search that indicates that John's wife Kate died in 1934. I haven't found a date of death for John yet-

Kate
