Looking for info on IDA A. ANDERSON or maybe ANDERSSDOTTER, b:11 Feb 1857 in Grinstados, Elfsborgslan or Alvsborgslan. Immigrated to Michigan,USA in 1882.
I am looking for contacts or resources for the Rölanda-Högen area. The last name I am predominately looking for is Christofferson or Christopherson. Thanks
I've taken a look at the records for Rölanda available from Arkiv Digital. There is a settlement (a gård perhaps) called Högen there. A quick review of the pages for Högen in the household examination roll AI:13 (1876-1885), p. 75-96 did not reveal any Christofferssons but I wasn't sure of the time frame that your family was there. Post some more specific information on the person you are seeking in Rölanda, especially a birthdate, and I'll have another look at the records.
Hi Steven, I guess I should have been more specific. I have the census records up to 1920. I am looking for direction in finding land records, wills or court records, both past and present. Also, I know that several of my great-great uncles lived in that area until their deaths. Gustav Martin and Otto Albin Christofferson
I'm guessing that the following probate record relates to a member of your family: Kristoffersson, Mattias, hemmansägare, Rölanda, Högen, 1859: 929. This was found in the index of probate records for Vedbo häradsrätt covering the years 1737-1859. The actual record is in FIIa:34, p. 929. The record itself indicates Mattias died on 17 July 1859 and that he left a widow Katarina Larsdotter. There are additional probate records for Vedbo härad after 1859, but no index is available on Arkiv Digital for those years.
The SwedGen Tour 2009 have started, they touring from WA to MN in US. If you have hit a brick wall in your swedish research, you can join theirs lectures, workshops and one-on-one sessions.
I am searching for descendants of Pehr Magnus Gabrielson and Adalina Louisa Andersdotter.Their Children were Carl G., Anna (who died in about 1900) Adolph, Anders, Eric, Per, Evrett, and Selma. The first four sons immigrated to the United States in 1891 and early 1900's.
I am searching for descendants of Frans August Vilgot Johansson who was born near Eriksberg in Jan 1873.
The farm on which he was born was named Hökhult. and he was the son of Johan Pettersson and Maria
Kristina Andersdotter. He emigrated to the US about 1891.
I have just started to really dig into my Swedish family history. And I'm so confused and almost ready to give up. I did find that one relative is from Alvsborgs county. Anyone have information on:
Anders Henrik Carlsson (or Karlsson)? Born March 2, 1862. Married twice, second wife was Emma Justina Johansdotter.
I tried searching with SVAR, but unless you have a translator right there it makes no sense to me. Any tips would be great!
Do you know from which parish your relative came from? Älvsborg is a really big county.
Your county and ours don't working similar when it cames to genealogy. Here in Sweden it's the parish which counts. It's great that you know the county as then you know in which part of Sweden to look into, as sometimes there is parishes with the same name in other parts of Swel.
So to your question, did this Anders Henrik emigrated? Did he lived in Sweden 1890?
If you like to do research by yourself in swedish churchbooks it better to use Genline I think. This as they have a site in english as well and a research-client in english http://www.genline.com.
Leslie - you should read Hans Högman's website. There you find a lot of information about genealogy in Sweden and how the jurisdiction districts works here, churcbooks, soldiersystem and so on. Maybe it became clearer how to do genealogy here.
I read through the Hans Hogmans site and still have some problems. The Parishes I think I have do not seem to show up anywhere: Brattingstorp Alvsborgs, Bollareslatt Orby, Haby Skattegarden Orby, Ekedalen Orby, Johannisberg Orby and Bosgarden Orby.
And I can't tell if Orby is a parish or a county (lan).
These records go back to the late 1700's through 1929.
Leslie - Orby is parish (as well as a town). It's proper spelling is Örby, Älvsborgs. The umlauts above the O and A place them at the end of the alphabet, after Z. So when searching things keep this in mind. The other part such as "Haby Skattegarden" is a location within the parish (or town if you prefer). I have some ancestors that actually lived there. If you would like you can send me questions at jtischer@cableone.net and I will try to help.
