I have three brothers Daniel, John, and Joseph Jones who came from Maryland to SC. Daniel's son Thomas W. Jones b 19 May 1716. Wm Jones b abt 1748 SC, d Casey Co Ky 1789 this Wm was the grand father of Wm who lived in IN and later moved to IA 1851. My Jones family is out of Somerset County Maryland. I'm researching a Hampton or Hamilton Jones whose son Zedekiah Jones relocated to Camden County New Jersey, circa 1895. Looking for parents of James Jones (1790 - 1862), who was born in PA or MD; lived in Greene County, PA. His wife was Elizabeth Henderson. They had four children - William (married Rhoda McClelland), Nancy (married Reason Dye), Hannah (married James McClelland, sister of Rhoda)' and John.
Family legend has Robert Jones as James' father, but have no documented evidence of this, however. It is reported that Robert had at least two brothers - Charles and Andrew, who located in Columbiana Co., Ohio in the early 1800 s. One or both of these brother may have relocated to KY later.
It is likely that this Jones Family came west from eastern PA, Maryland (Harford Co. (?) or VA. I have DNA data indicating that a Richard Jones (b. 1815) with ancestral roots to Charles City, VA in the late 1600s and early to mid-1700s is related. Richard Jones would be a 4th cousin or less.

On November 28, 1870 Jesse purchased 133 acres in Jackson (now Jennings) township of Owen County. He owed back taxes on 21 acres of that land in 1873. Jesse Jones died between 1873 and 1880, when Sarah is found in the 1880 Owen County, Indiana census listed as a widow. She lived in Jennings township. It is likely that the family moved to Owen County in the 1870's.

Several members of this family left the Union-Wayne County, Indiana area in the 1840s for the areaof Cloverdale, Putnam County, Indiana and adjoining Owen County, Indiana.
I am having difficulty locating an M. Richard JONES. I do not know what the "M" might stand for nor do I have a DOB. My best guess is that Dick is 65+possibly born in the 1940+/-. For at least 2 years he worked in Puerto Rico outside of San Juan (1973-74) at a tobacco plant that I think might have been owned by R J Reynolds Tobacco out of NC or a subsidiary. At that time he was a single/divorced parent and had 2 kids that would come to visit named Diane and Scott. They are most likely grown with families of their own by now.
I have very little to work with obviously. I did find a match on the name thru the SS Death index and the guy died last year at the age of 82. This sounds too old for Dick but I sent for the death certificate from NC nevertheless in hopes of finding out for sure or at least maybe find a connection.
If his name (went by Dick) is in some of your research I would love to hear from you. Also, if you have some tips or suggestions for pursuing this endeavor with little info I could appreciate them as well. This is definitely an exercise is it not?

I saw a comment made by him/her in Dec. 2011 about the Jones family that began their life in America in Maryland and after many years settled in Alabama. Later, descendants moved on to Texas. Greene Co TN..George Jones B. abt 1760, parents Thomas and Elizabeth Jones from VA or MD. It seems that Thomas had brothers Samuel and Joseph Jones. In late 1700's these men came to TN. At the time of Thomas's death he was living in Jefferson Co TN. He died abt 1803/4. I do not know about Elizabeth after Thomas's death. In court minutes of Greene Co TN, I find Joseph and Thomas as heirs to brother Samuel. They both signed their rights over to a Daniel Carter of Greene Co. Hoping someone has connections.
My John Jones was transported to Australia in 1829 so know nothing of his past in England. He married another convict Elizabeth Walters in 1838 and they had moved to Dubbo NSW by 1846 for the birth of 2nd daughter (as they are only baptism records neither give any information of parents except names. Birth certificates of last 2 children only state London as parents birth place. Deaths just say England

Buried: Cunot Cemetery in Jackson Township, Owen County, IN, Usa
Jesse was found in the 1850 census of Abington township of Wayne County, Indiana. He owned $800 worth of land. Neither he or Sarah could read or write. He was next found farming in Cloverdale township of Putnam County, Indiana in 1860-1870. He owned $2,600 worth of land there in June 1870. On November 28, 1870 Jesse purchased 133 acres in Jackson (now Jennings) township of Owen County. He owed back taxes on 21 acres of that land in 1873.
Jesse Jones died between 1873 and 1880, when Sarah is found in the 1880 Owen County, Indiana census listed as a widow. She lived in Jennings township. It is likely that the family moved to Owen County in the 1870's.

I am having difficulty locating an M. Richard JONES. I do not know what the "M" might stand for nor do I have a DOB. My best guess is that Dick is 65+possibly born in the 1940+/-. For at least 2 years he worked in Puerto Rico outside of San Juan (1973-74) at a tobacco plant that I think might have been owned by R J Reynolds Tobacco out of NC or a subsidiary. At that time he was a single/divorced parent and had 2 kids that would come to visit named Diane and Scott. They are most likely grown with families of their own by now.
I have very little to work with obviously. I did find a match on the name thru the SS Death index and the guy died last year at the age of 82. This sounds too old for Dick but I sent for the death certificate from NC nevertheless in hopes of finding out for sure or at least maybe find a connection.
If his name (went by Dick) is in some of your research I would love to hear from you. Also, if you have some tips or suggestions for pursuing this endeavor with little info I could appreciate them as well. This is definitely an exercise is it not?

I am joining the Jones Project in order to contact AJones, a member of this project. I saw a comment made by him/her in Dec. 2011 about the Jones family that began their life in America in Maryland and after many years settled in Alabama. Later, descendants moved on to Texas. The comment said that William Jefferson .Jones was the ggg grandfather of AJones. William Jefferson Jones is my gg grandfather. Because, I am new I am not sure how to contact this person. Perhaps some of you will help. me.

Greene Co TN..George Jones B. abt 1760, parents Thomas and Elizabeth Jones from VA or MD. It seems that Thomas had brothers Samuel and Joseph Jones. In late 1700's these men came to TN. At the time of Thomas's death he was living in Jefferson Co TN. He died abt 1803/4. I do not know about Elizabeth after Thomas's death. In court minutes of Greene Co TN, I find Joseph and Thomas as heirs to brother Samuel. They both signed their rights over to a Daniel Carter of Greene Co. Hoping someone has connections.

My John Jones was transported to Australia in 1829 so know nothing of his past in England. He married another convict Elizabeth Walters in 1838 and they had moved to Dubbo NSW by 1846 for the birth of 2nd daughter (as they are only baptism records neither give any information of parents except names. Birth certificates of last 2 children only state London as parents birth place. Deaths just say England
