All French-Canadians are related as they are descended from about 2.500 people. They also have some of the best kept records in the world. Please feel free to post queries, events, pictures, tell stories, etc.
I am searching my many great grandmother Magdelene Chevalier she was married to Amable Turpin , he was son of Joseph Dit Sandrille Turpin and Marie Angelique Makwa (Algonquin) from montreal and Slave lake,Quebec Canada
She resided in Minnesota. My aunt thinks she was daughter of a Francois Chevalier in minnesota who was married to a Whapeton sioux woman.
Are you looking for your Canadian decendants french and english? I live in Hawkesbury, Ontario a five minute walk to the Quebec border and have found two that are worth checking out:
For those searching for Canadian ancestors there are two great sites: http://www.nosorigines.qc.ca/genealogie.aspx?lng=fr it shows Canadian, Acadian and Quebec families including in some cases a small history of the relative and their jobs. You can even have links to parents and grandparents. Some are missing marriages and children, but by becoming a member we are allowed to update them. I suggest using the phonetic search option instead of exact name bacause of the spelling changes for the same names. Please note that Native wives were accepted by the church until a proper white wife could be found. I also love this site https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1®i...
Janet MacDougall, the most likey variation would be LOUBET. or LOUBAT. LOUBET has the dit name of TOULOUSE. I would try the Loiselle and Rivest marriage indexes which you could order form you local FHC.
For those who like to add a little flavor to your ancestors other than just names, dates and places here is a site describing what the daily life may have been like -
There is a new podcast series specific to researching French-Canadian ancestors, and it is very, very good. Produced by Sandra Goodwin at Maple Stars and Stripes. The previous episodes and show notes in text and tables is at
