Haven't started searching out of the US yet. I do know however that my family on my moms sides are French Canadian. Crossed the border some time ago to start a life in Canton, St Lawrence, NY. they are not a very close family so dates and details are slim.

Also, researching Oickle,Townsend, Jollimore, of Nova Scotia. A big ? is "Biscuitsauce" Seamone, thought to have been pressed into British Navy and escaped in Nova Scotia. Very curious.

If you can give me names for his wife and children, it will help me know I've got the right person.

My focus is on finding blacks in Canada dating way back to the New France era. So little has been written about Canadian slavery and though Canada ended slavery a generation before the U.S. did, documenting the lives of Canadian slaves is easier in some ways, but far more difficult in other ways.
A survey of the settlement of Detroit (South shore only which is now Windsor Ontario) dated July 1782 shows 25 female and 10 male slaves all to French families. My ancestor, François Marentette had 1 male and 2 female slaves. Source: The Windsor Border Region by Lajeunesse page 75.
Interested in any information on my mother's family. My mother was born (1905) in Sarnia, Ontario. Her father was William F. Harris, her mother Rose Williams. My mother had 1 brother, Norman Harris (lived in Sarnia), and one sister Pearl Harris who immigrated to Detroit/Flint Michigan. My mother came to the United States when she married my father William Reinbold. My family lived in Waterloo, Illinois where my parents are buried. Any info on the Harris and Williams family in the Ontario area would be greatly appreciated. I have found some info in hospital records. Thank you
My grandfather was born in the U.S. but during WWI he joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force and fought in the Battle of Vimy where he was wounded. He returned to Canada in 1917 and was in and out of the hospital until his death in 1921. I found in a New York paper an article that he lost his American citizenship because he enlisted with Canada. Looking for more info, any suggestions as to how I could find why the US would have taken away his citizenship.
Has anyone got any information on Estevan and the Miners' Struggle of 1931 please, I would be extremely grateful for any historical data on this. Thanks in advance.

This will probably be a long shot,....but I am trying to trace the descendants of George GIDLEY (born 17 Oct 1862 in GreystoneBridge, Lezant, Cornwall) & Sophia Ellen SARGENT (born 22 Mar 1861 in North Tamterton, Cornwall), who were married on 13 Oct 1881 in North Tamterton, Cornwall.
George & Sophia emigrated with 5 of their 6 surviving children to London, Ontario, Canada during 1893. I know from the 1911 Canadian Census that some of the family members were living at 108 Forward Ave, London, Ontario.
The children being;-

George GIDLEY (1862) is the son of my 2nd Gt Grandfather's first marriage (George GIDLEY & Mary Jane WERRING married 22 Aug 1861 in Launceston, Cornwall), so makes him my half Gt GrandUncle. Any information or directions as to where I can go to find out any more information on this family would be appreciated.
Thanks
Michael

Please advise. Thanks.

I have several family names in Nova Scotia that I'm interested in. LETTENEY, KINNEY, PRIME, MULLEN, SABEAN, DOTY, POOLE, WARNE, WYMAN, REDDEN, TRENHOLM, COLDWELL.
When my grandfather came down to MA in the 1920's his last name went from KINNEY to KENNEY.
Can anyone tell me why the now ghost town, Sellwood, in Ontario, was so called? I have learned a fair bit about its history but the reason for its name eludes me.
I am hoping that one of my long ago relatives may have something to do with it.
I will be pleased to translate any français documents for you if you can send it to me raymarentette@rogers.com. No cost just the pleasure to help somone find their roots.
