    Hi,

My ggg grandfather William S Thornton married Elizabeth Walker - 1812 Edgefield, SC. There were three male Walker families in the immediate area but I cannot connect her to either line with documentation other than the marriage record. She was born 1794.

This message is for Susan Buchanan or anyone else looking for Walker memorabilia. I have a copy of a letter dated Dec, 1869 written by Fannie Walker to her cousin Margaret (Maggie) Goen. Fannie was the daughter of Thomas Walker and Nancy Goen. Nancy Goen was sister to Hugh Goen, father of Maggie. Hugh and his family moved from GA to AL in the 1850's or 60's to the Macon Co. area, before moving on to TX by 1869. If anyone would like a copy of this letter, please contact me ogoenranch@aol.com. I don't know anything more about this Walker connection, but would love to learn more.

    When Posting Requests / Surnames:

I and many other Walkers are always glad to help with research, but there are a few basic pieces of information we need in order to be acurate.

Because there are probably hundreds if not thousands of people with the same name (Walker is 17th most common in Scotland and US) then we need the following to help discern one Walker from another:

    Names
    birth dates
    places of birth
    siblings
    husband or wife

and anything else you can provide. Knowing a person's name and the date they came to the US or wherever is not enough to identify most people.

    Kind Regards,

    Jim Walker
  • Gene Ray Thornton, Jr.

    Hi Jim,

We have a female Walker in our line. Here's the information on her:

    Elizabeth Walker (Thornton)
    1794 Edgefield SC
Siblings unknown at this time. Although we do know their children's names:
Nancy, Sallie, Emily, John (Jack) Walker, Samuel, Edmond. It is highly probable that their son John Walker was named after Elizabeth's father or brother. The only other possibility we know of is that William had a half brother named John G. also nicknamed Jackie.
We have a document to support proof of their marriage - william sold Jeriah Dillard 200 acres lying on the waters of Beaverdam Creek, Jan 13, 1818, and Elizabeth Thornton relinquished all her right and claim to her Dower to Jeariah Dillard, Jan 22 1819. Robert Walker signed as justice of peace (may have been a relative of Elizabeth's)
    William S. Thornton - husband. b. 1792 Edgefield SC

    Gene Ray,
Your posting is interesting. My Walker line is from VA, moved to northeastern GA in the 1790's, and on to Middle Tennessee probably around 1807. My direct ancestor in this line, Helton Rutherford Walker (b 1828), married Esther Elizabeth Thornton, and was said to have had some previous relationship with the family.

Esther Elizabeth Thornton's grandfather was Josiah Thornton, born abt 1779, South Carolina. I reside in SC, and am a professional genealogist, but have not worked on the Thornton line.
  • Gene Ray Thornton, Jr.

    Janis,

Not in our line. I think this Thornton was born/living in Spartanberg. We are part of the Quaker Thornton line. Our line goes back through NC and VA then England. Thank you for your reply!
