The information I have on my Gragg family is documented in Clay Co. Mo marriage records, the Magill Family Bible Records, The Will of Henry Gragg, Ray Co. MO dated 14 July 1823.proved 3 May 1824. This Henry Gragg lived 32 years in TN and moved to Missouri at the age of 55. I don't think we are talking about the same Martha Jane. Quoting from an abstract of the Will of my Henry Gragg, will dated 14 July 1823. Wife Betsy Gragg. Nine children that live at home and the one wife is pregnant with: Robert, William John, James Hervy, Mahala, Jefferson, Jacob, Rachel, Martha Jame. Georgie all I have is an abstract of the Will. I haven't seen Teds Book. I have sone my own research. I had to put genealogy on the back burner for a few years due to the loss of a son and my husbands illness. The complete Will for my Henry Gragg is in Book A46, Ray County, MO. wills. The Heirs listed were: Robert, William, Polly, John , James H. Mahala, Jefferson, Jacob, Rachel, Martha Jane, and Henry. This is from "Missouri Pioneers. Vol. 8.
  • Clovis Marie Byars Herring

I don't think Missouri had birth or death records in the period we are talking about..
  • Clovis Marie Byars Herring

Her maiden name was Martha Jane Gragg. She married William B. MaGill.
  • Clovis Marie Byars Herring

I am very sure there is more than one Martha Jane that was either born a Gragg or married a man by the name of Gragg. Many of the Gragg's changed the spelling of the name to Gregg. Is your Gragg ancestor from Missouri?
  • Blake Georgie

Yes my mother was a Gragg. My side of the Graggs came from Monroe CO. Iowa. My GG Grandfather was Washington Jackson Gragg son of Thomas and Nancy Ellender Crow Gragg. Washington was born in Greene CO. Tenn. Washington married 2 times. 1st to Fanny Emelia Cousins Hummel. Fanny lost her 1st husband in the war. She then married Washington and had 5 kids. Fanny died in Delaware CO. Iowa. Washington then moved to Mercer CO. MO where he met my GG Grandmother Nancy Jane Myers Wright Gragg. Nancy was married to Joseph Wright he died looking for work in Memphis MO. My G Grandfather was Tolbert Rockhold Gragg. Tolbert married Ida Belle Thompson. My Grandfather was Rev Ira Thomas Gragg. He was the minister of the same church for 32 years.
  • Clovis Marie Byars Herring

Great. It may be we are related some place further up the line. Don't you think?
  • Blake Georgie

If you are related to Robert Gragg/Gregg Sr or JR. then yes we are.
  • Blake Georgie

I just looked in my Legacy and yes we are Henry Gragg is my 4th Great Granduncle. I have him listed as died in Ray CO. MO.
  • Blake Georgie

This is what I have on Robert Gregg SR.

Robert Sr was from Northern Ireland and emigrated to the colony of Virginia as a single man. He married into a respectable family by the name of Harrison and settled int eh neighborhood of Stanton, Augusta County. He was respectable farmer and a member of the Presbyterian Church.

He was the father of seven sons and five daughters. Thomas, Henry, Robert Jr, and Samuel all married and moved to Tennessee.

In a few years, Robt Sr. followed with his two youngest sons, John and William.

Robert Sr. purchased a fine tract of land and for a number of years lived as a patriarch, surrounded by six sons and four daughters.
  • Blake Georgie

Clovis do you have 2 Nancy Crow's in your family tree? My Nancy is the daughter of Benjamin Crow and Ann Gregg. If Walter Crow and Ann Miller had a Nancy also thats where the confusing part come from cuz alot of people think my Nancy name is Nancy Crow Crow Gragg. BUT mine is Nancy Ellender Crow Gragg.
  • Clovis Marie Byars Herring

Georgie, I have Henry Gragg married first Nancy Crow (with a question mark because I got that from some one else and never proved it) supposedly the daughter of Walter Crow? So that tells me I need to do more research before I claim her as his first wife. My information shows that Henry Gragg and his first wife had Samuel, Elizabeth, Benjamin, and Thomas. He married Elizabeth "Betsy" Pharoah (farrow) b. ca 1784 NC. married 25 Nov 1800 Greene Co. Tenn Children by second marriage were: Robert born ca 1805/1801 Greene Co. TN married 16 Aug 1827 Nancy Brewer, William born ca 1808, Green Co or Cocke Co. TN married 11 Mar 1830 Cathering Jones, died Jefferson Co. KS, John b. 14 Feb 1810 Co9cke Co TN md 1st 16 Jan 1838 Elizabeth Ford. James Harvey b. ca 1812 Green or Cocke Co. TN md 17 Mar 1833 Nancy Ann White, died March 1849 Clay Co. MO This is getting to long, the rest of the children were Jefferson, MahalaM Rachel, Martha Jane who is my ancestor, Henry II, Mary Monroe "Polly" born after her father wrote his will.(child my wife goes with). If you don't have the rest of the data on these last kids I will be happy to give that info to you. I guess we are cousins.
  • Clovis Marie Byars Herring

Georgie you are doing great. Now maybe we can find someone else that is related. I show that Robert Gragg/Gregg and Lydia? Harrison was Henry Gragg's parents. The rest of your questions and comments will have to wait until tomorrow.
    Have a good evening
  • Blake Georgie

I will have to look at the Gregg/Gragg book to see what Ted Gregg has. I know there are mistakes in there but its a start.
