Greetings,
I am interested in learning more about how to research my ancestors from Mellerud, Dalsland, Sweden.
This is the information I have:
My great grandmother was Alma Sofia Aronsdotter, born May 1882 in Mellerud. She was the daughter of Aron Johannson (1845-?) and Maja Elofsdotter (1851-1916?). Aron's parents were Johannes Magnusson and Maja Kaja Andersdotter. I have no information on Maja Elofsdotter's parents.
Alma's Journey to America:
Alma departed Sweden for Glasgow, Scotland for passage on the S.S. Caledonia bound for New York. The ship departed Glasgow on 14 July 1906 and arrived at Ellis Island on 22 July 1906. The ship manifest shows Alma's name as Alma Sofia Johansson, age 24, single, occupation: seamstress, born Sweden, destination: Minneapolis, Minnesota. In Minneapolis she met and married August "Gust" Malm, born Oct 1873, possibly in Rorum, Sweden. August immigrated to America in 1907. I have no information on his parents.
Alma and August eventually moved to Hubbard County in northern Minnesota and settled there. The couple had four sons. Alma died on 20 January 1956 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids, Minnesota.
Tack sa mycket!

Well if you don't want to subscribe to the swedish on-line services I can help.
We actually lived some years quite close to Ör parish where Alma Sofia was born. And our kids celebrated the end of the schoolyear in Ör church.
I have ArkivDigital and have created a pdf for the relevant pages - giving you some more dates.
Just tell me what else you may need.
Olle (now in Karlstad - about one hour drive north of Mellerud.)
