  • Anita Payne

What data Cd/info do you use? I've been trying to find some info on a family from Rutherglen, just down the road from you.
  • Jenny Halliday

Anita i have AVRI which covers Victoria if that is of any help, acutally come to think of it i also have the macbeth applications victorian indexs up to 1920.
  • Jenny Halliday

Hi fellow listers, i am researching the Halliday family who started their Aussie lives in Victoria with Thomas and Alice Webb marrying in Emerald Hill in 1856. They went on to have 10 children who were born in Collingwood, Castlemaine, Beechworth & Gisborne. Most of the family stayed in Vic except my branch, Richard who married Jesse Robertson Daley of St Kilda (my footie team she says tongue in cheek) in 1898 and then moved on to WA. My husbands side eventually moved to Tassie.
  • John Clifford Shorten

this looks like a very interesting page and I am going to add a name to it By the name STANLEY which is on my sisters side of her family.

We start with William who was convicted at the ol'bailey and sent to Tasmania as a convict but was pardoned for good behavior on the trip and was a free man on landing in Derwent in 1812 6 yrs later he married in Hobart to a Sarah Ryan and had 10 children most of the family came to the mainland and settled in places like:Wedderburn/Mt Korong, Geelong, Inglewood, Ravenswood and Echuca.
the one thing that I am after is were most are buried and would dearly love to find the grave stones and have photos of them.

If there is someone out there that is able to help me find these cemeteries I would be glad to supply the names of this family to help in researching them names.
    Thank you
    Wayne

Hi, looking for anything on Richard Thomas ELLIOTT, wife Isabella and children, Louis, Clara, Harold, Charles and Bertha. The first three children died in 1872 and I was wondering if anyone knows about an epidemic of some kind in Emerald Hill in Victoria about this time? The family moved to Australia between 1868-1870. Thanks, Jen
  • Carmel M Reynen

There was a diptheria epedimic at this time, try to google it! of course at this time it was quite common. a death certificate will answer this as well
  • Jen Morris

Thanks Carmel, I found it. I had googled epidemic before but it didn't come up, guess you had to know it was diptheria. Thanks again, Jen
  • Royce Leonard Beale

Hi all, I have been on other groups for quite some time and have never asked a question. But with the kind souls who have been using this site I feel that the time has come. I have a surname that many would think of as keeping up with the Jones'. My GGrandfather was a pioneer in the Wangaratta area and his name is George Jones, my Grandfathers name was Thomas Jones who married Elizabeth Sarah Bartrop (from Nathalia) in 1906 in Wangaratta. Any information would be greatly recieved and faithfully apllied.
    Kindest regards to all
    Royce
  • John Clifford Shorten

Thomas Wliiam JONES married Elizabeth Sarah BARTROP 1906 (7938)
Sarah was born Echuca 1884 (16508) Parents James BARTROP and Frances Emma MORLEY.
The only Thomas William born at Wangaratta is for b 1884 (6238) however parents ars listed as William JONES and Mary Anne PATTERSON.
Do you know any further deatils re George JONES and who he married?
The other is George William JONES b 1883 Wang parents are Henry George JONES and Isabella SWAN.

I have a couple of ancestors who came to Autralia in the 1860's. The last name is Arcotti. They are listed in a book called The Settlement of Swiss Ticino Immigrants in Australia by J. Gentilli. Page 16 lists Bartolomeo and Giacomo Arcotti.Origin Corippo. Birth dates 1828 and 1831. I have no record of what happened to either. Bartolomeo was my great great grandfather. Any ideas about finding more information on Arcotti in Australia? Thanks!
  • Carmel M Reynen

You say Bartolomeo is your g grandfather, where was your grandparent born, what state were they in?
    carmel
  • PF

    California
  • Carmel M Reynen

so they went to California? so they did not stay in Australia?
  • PF

Oh sorry. I actually have a book about the Ticinese Australian Immigrants. My great grandfather was Bartolomeo Arcotti. He never went to Australia and immigrated to California. His father, also called Bartolomeo went to Australia and I have no record of his death. Giacomo also went to Aus. and I have no more records. The book was not much help, just verified that they were there.
  • TreeDelver

    This could be your man!

I saw that. Thanks. That has been added to my tree. I have searched pretty hard for Arcotti items. It seems to be a pretty rare name.
