Hello and thank you for the invitation to join. My grandfather, Knut Alfred Flodin, was born in Ransberg Parish. He emigrated to the US in 1893. His father and mother as well as other family members are buried in the church cemetary. As far as I can detemine, Flodin is a soldier name that stuck. My lineage in Skaraborg goes back to at least the 1600s.
My roots in Skaraborg County are: Augusta JOHANSDOTTER b. 05 Dec 1851; Våmb, Skaraborgslan, Sweden; (Augusta's father) Johannes BENGTSSON, b. 13 Mar 1823, Hångsdala, Skaraborgslan, Sweden; (Augusta's mother) Maria JOHANSDOTTER b. 21 Apr 1822, Sweden. Augusta's siblings: Matilda Gustavia JOHANNESDOTTER b. 03 Dec 1848, Norra Kyrketorp, Skaraborg County, Sweden; Emma Kristina JOHANSDOTTER b. 15 Aug 1850, Våmb, Skaraborgslan, Sweden; August JOHANSSON b. 21 Dec 1854, Våmb, Skaraborgslan, Sweden; Gustaf Wilhelm JOHANSON b. Aft. 1857, Sweden; Tyra (Albertine?)(Nordenberg) JOHANSDOTTER b. Aft. 1857, sweden
My Grandmother Anna Sofia Eriksdotter was born in Helsningstorp Forsvik Undenäs Skaraborg Västergötland Sweden 15 May 1879 to Erik Olofsson and Kajsa Larsdotter. She married Karl Oskar Andersson on 31 January 1903 in Brevik Skaraborg Vastergotland Sweden. She left Sweden on 30 July 1907 with 2 children to join her husband in the USA. I am looking for more of her family in Sweden. Arlene Hollenbeck
Thank you for starting this page. I would like to find any history I can on my grandmother who was born in Skeby Annex, Skaraborg, in 1905 to Frantz Johansson and Kerstine Persson. She was the only child. I would like to know where this Skeby Annex is and any other information that any can share. Thanks!
What a lovely and useful web site! I am interested in Marka and Gokhem. Since I found out that my grandfather's original family name wasn't Becklund, but Andersson, I'm interested also in learning more about the ways surnames were changed once emigrants arrived in America.
Laurie my greatgrand fathers name was Anders Svennson he was in the Swedish army in 1845 and they changed his name to Carlo.( that was a common practice back then)and thats the name that he used when he cane to the USA in 1870
