Sol family in northern Europe

For sharing of Sol family history, especially of three Sol families in Holland. Probably decended from Jan Sol, of Haarlem ca 1590-1600.

2 Helpful websites for Sol genealogy research are (genlias.nl) which contians old birth, death and marriage records and (CBG.nl) which is the Netherlands goverment website for Central Bureua of Genealogie in The Hague.

You can always GOOGLE "Sol" with the terms "stamboom" or "genealogie" and hook up with a dutch researcher on this name.

Sol may be a variant or have variant spellings like Soll or van Sol.

I have yet to see a connection to van Soldt/Solt/Sold family but come across this name in my research many times.

from CBG.nl the have the famous MUSCHART heraldry collection on microfilm. It is a collection of index cards with description of coat of arms, sometimes a rare drawing when something was hard to describe, where the arms were seen, and often the arms bearer's name or family with additional genealogical notes.
(There is a second and DIFFERENT Muschart Heraldry collection in South Africa's Bureau of Heraldry which may contain additional information!)

The Central Bureau of Genealogie does not have this collection on line, but offers the following film code and partial description of the arms in dutch.

    SOL
Codering(en) volgens Muschart bij de naam Sol
88A: Monogram, letters door of naast elkaar
(a shield with the letter more likely "S" on it)

    van SOL
Codering(en) volgens Muschart bij de naam Sol, van
12H: Gevierendeeld: 1+4 palen (inclusief vairpalen
    (quartered arms)

    SOLL
Codering(en) volgens Muschart bij de naam Soll
    19IJ:
    (? interesting)

They also have several written articles on a couple of Sol families, one being from North Brabant.

Also consider the variant spellings of Zoll or Zol which have been associated with the Sol name.
Muschart heraldry collection has the following arms
    ZOLL
Codering(en) volgens Muschart bij de naam Zoll, van
    53I: Twee leeuwen
    (2 lions)

Thanks for your comments. I can read German, which helps with Dutch....but I do not know Dutch....

The articles on SOL at CBG.nl sound interesting: can you help me get email copies of these articles? Please? I have microfilms of the index to the early records in Haarlem.....I don't know if these Sol records are in CBG.nl

Would appreciate help locating living persons with the Sol surname.....the Y-DNA test is the only test I trust to show a relationship to the family of Soule in North America......since George Soule left Leiden and Haarlem in 1620.

    Many thanks!

Thanks! I am having trouble finding the website CBG.nl when I google it, I get websites about cbg.nl, ie number of servers etc. Sigh! maybe my aol account can not access the website cbg.nl??

I am also aware the Sol family I seek is probably living in Belgium (now!) about 1590 as the Leiden birth records 1591-99 state the father Jan Sol is from 'Brussel' So I am assuming Jan Sol was a Protestant who fled north after the assassination of William of Orange in 1584. His wife was Mayken/Mary Labis/Labus....and I suppose their marriage record would be in 'Brussel'....in Brabant??

Any ideas on how to locate their marriage record ca 1590 would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Oops! the birth records I have found for 1591-9 are from Haarlem, not Leiden, but do mention the father Jan Sol is from 'Brussel' I am assuming this is the same as modern Brussels???
