Hi Group, I'm asking for your help in finding out more about my Great Grandmother, Angeline Heeren. I believe she was born in Iowa about March 1856 and died 1937 in Adams Co., Iowa. She married Cornelius Rah (1857-1930) 19 Aug 1876 in Rock Island, Il. What I can't find is her parents. I know they came to America from Germany. I just don't know what their names are or when they came. Do you have a Heeren in your family????
I have traced my ancestry back to 1675. Johann Heinrich Erdle born in Triebes, Thuringen, Germany. I am looking for earlier ancestors. Name became Artley in the late 1700's in Pennsylvania.
I am looking for info on Henry Rickle (Rickli, Rickly) born 1836 in Switerland?, Died 4 May 1883 in New City, NY (Clarkstown). Married to Eva Katherin Fetig. I've been trying to link him back to Europe. My confusion stems from one Census listing him as Swiss and another as German. I believe Eva was from Barvaria but I'm not sure if they married before or after coming to the US. I don't have ready access to resources in NY so before I start sending checks out for a wild goose chase I'm trying to post up to different sites.
Thank you so much Michael Boscarato! This is great....I'm looking right this minute....I know I've got relatives in Mettmann Germany and have asked a cousin (several times) for information about my German relatives but as of yet, they haven't replied..
This is very kind of you...thank you once again.
Ursula

She worked as a servant / maid in St. Louis MO

I am also searching for the Morell family of Bavaria. My last ancestor that I can find was Adam Morell, arrived in Philadelphia PA from Bavaria in 1852. He married Katharina Epp, also from Bavaria. He was born 10 DEC 1826. I have been able to trace the Epp family thanks to Michael Muller in Germany but have no more information on the Morell's. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Trying to find any information on Matheas WEYMERT (also WEIMERT) from Langensaltzbach. Came to the US in 1750 on the ship Anderson from Rotterdam. The family was in Maryland. It seems that much of the Weimer heritage comes from Langensaltzbach, ALSACE, France. Apparently quite a few Germans settled there. His son Adam Weimert born c1737 in Weimer, Germany.
My great grandmother was Mary Darr born 1843 in Pennsylvania probably in Cumberland Co, dau of Richard Darr and Mary Peters. I am looking for information about Richard Darr and family.
I would appreciate anu help or research suggestions
I would like to suggest a very useful book on beginning German genealogy. "Be4ginner's Guide to Germanic Genealogy," by Lois Hemmeter Edwards. It is published by the German Genealogy Society. Their webpage is
www.rootsweb.com/~mnggs/GGS.html
It gives ou a step-by-step process to find your german ancestors. The essential steps are:
1. the Name
2. religion
3. birthdate
4. place of origin
The biggest problem is locating the "Place of Origin". To do this, in most cases, you need to use American records.
For those who live near Sacramento, CA, there is help through the Sacramento German Genealogy Society. They have volunteers at the Sacramento Family History Society, every Thursday afternoon from 1-5 pm. The society has over 1000 German, research related books that the FHC.
My great grandmother was a Box. The immigrant was Henry Box, who supposedly came from "Little English" in Prussia. The name and town have obviously been Anglicanized. I wonder if anyone has an idea where to start in my quest for the Box family in Prussia.
Researcing the surnames Weikert and Graf for my best friend. I only have a US sub to Ancestry so any help would be fantastic. The family currently lives in Altenstadt.

My relatives were specifically from the Baden area, Osensbach, Rust as well as Alasce, Strasbourg. Any reading or reference material we welcomed.
For Jill Nowak: There are several very active Germans from Russia organizations. Go to the GRHS.org website or the NDSU website: http://library.ndsu.edu/grhc/. Both have excellent websites with lots of history and genealogy information. All of my ancestors are Germans from Russia and I have been researching them for several years. If I can be of any help, let me know.

After years of searching for my grandfather's birthplace, I have a lead that should prove useful. I have followed any number of blind leads, some from his family, but now I believe I have useful data. In March, 1913, he applied for a passport to return to Germany to visit his family. In that application he says he was born in Richenau, Germany on 11 August 1855. I have no information on his religion before he came to the United States, which he says was in January 1883, leaving from Bremen onboard the ship "Werra" and residing continuously in Whitesboro, NY from his arrival in 1881 until 1913. I do have documentation that he was married in Fort Plain, NY on December 31, 1884 to Anna Barbara YOPS. My grandfather's name was Henry (or Heinrich) MICHEL. I also know that for some years in his life, he used the last name MICHAEL. With only this information, I am very interested in learning the techniques by which I might find out more about his birth and family. He lived in Whitesboro, NY until his death in January, 1947, having five children with Anna Barbara YOPS. The youngest of those children was my father, Charles MICHEL. Any suggestions or assistance would be very much appreciated.

I am researching the BETZ family from Sennfeld. The earliest information I have is John Matthias BETZ, aka Georg Betz or Baez. He married Elizabeth Catherine HERSCH on 28 January 1827 in Sennfeld, Mosbach, Baden, Germany. They had two sons, Andreas (born c. 1828 in Sennfeld) and Peter Conrad (born c. 1833 in Sennfeld). Andreas was a tailor. He emigrated to America in 1851 and married Anna Mary KONEIG (born c. 1836) on 20 July 1854 in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. A number of children were born there including Sophie (1854), Ernest Otto (1858), Udolphe (1858) and John (1860). Between 1860 and 1863 the family returned to Sennfeld, where two further children were born - Carl in 1863 and Emma in 1864. The family emigrated from Germany to Australia in 1865 and both Carl and Emma died on the voyage and were buried at sea. Four further children were born in Australia including, Charles (1867), Sophie (1871) and Anna Mary (1874).
Andreas' brother Peter Conrad emigrated to Australia in 1857. He married Magdalena Bunz c. 1866.
I have more information on some of the above and their descendants and would be interested to hear from anyone with information on this family or on how I can obtain any relevant records on the family from Germany.
