Hilton, Hylton's Family

Researching Hiltons Ancestors

I am a descendant of Edward Hilton, who, along with his brother William, was one of the first settlers of what became Dover NH. They came as early as 1623, just after the arrival of the pilgrims. I can post more of their story if you would like.

My husband traces his Hilton line to John Helton & Leona Blackwell. I have no dates for them, but their son Joseph was born 15 Apr 1903 in Virginia. He married Nellie Salyer around 1921. They lived in Carter County, Tennessee in 1930. Joseph died 21 Dec 1954. He is buried in West Lawn Cemetery, Canton, Stark County, Ohio. Joseph & Nellie were my hubby's great grandparents.

My Hilton line is very brief and very old. After Edward and William came here in 1623, I lose them when Edward's daughter married Christopher Palmer, but that brief brush with the Hiltons gave me a lot of family history. They were the progenitors of the family, founders of a town, and from all I can gather, descendants of royalty. There is a lot written of them. Edward is even mentioned by Governor Bradford in his history of Plymouth plantation. Amazing what a generation or two can do :)

I would love to trace them back into England, but I have so much to do with my ancestors over here first, since so many of mine came int he 16th century.
