I am researching Hassan and Inglis ancestry. Mary Inglis b.30 Sep 1877 in Auchinearn, Cadder, Lanarkshire, Scotland(? on the full town address). When she was 12 or 13 her mother passed away and she came to America by boat with someone(maybe relative) and story goes she lost everything including her chaperone(?) when the boat sank in route to New York in 1889. Upon hearing of the demise of the ship Joseph & John Hassan(Mary's Uncles) came from Rock Springs, Wyoming to help her finish her trip to family in Rock Springs. Joseph then became her guardian. I don't know as of yet what the name of the ship was or the dates. for sure. I just know she was in the company of a female as escort and that the ship sank. And how she come to meet and marry my Great Grandfather John Geddes Miller. Her parents are Peter Inglis and Mary Hassan married in 1876 Auchinairn, Lanarkshire(?), Scotland.

Any help on ship lists and who the person was that was traveling with her.
  • William Murray

My Scottish link is the Murray name. I believe that the family came to the U. S. before 1800 but I haven't gotten back to that ancestor yet. They may have immigrated via Ireland which makes it more complicated.
  • Anne Kerr

My Scottish ancestors came from Ayrshire, mainly the towns of Largs and Dalmellington. I've done considerable research on Lindsay families and Orr families in those towns. Both families came to the U.S. in the early 1900's, and settled first in the Chicago and Milwaukee areas. Now they're scattered all over. Others in the family emigrated to Australia and New Zealand as well.
  • Ron Ferguson

According to my family's folk lore, although now living in England, we are descended from the Scottish fergys. Unfortunately as yet I've yet to get further north than Kendal in 1784!

So if anybody knows of a Ben or Benjamin Ferguson born around 1766 in anywhere other than Westmorland I would be delighted to know.
