Anyone out there doing research on the Cormans ? I need to find a date of death for Nellie Beatrice Corman Patterson. She was my great grandmother. The last record I have is a photo of her dated 1947 from Longbranch in Toronto. She was with her son John who died in 1949. Nellie had a brother named Andrew who was a WW1 veteran and I'd like to find his date of death. Nellie was a descendant of Isaac Corman of Stoney Creek fame.

Are there descendants of, or others interested in; 1730's Canadian marines Capt. Antoine de Tonty (di Tonti) and aide Maj. Charles Pierre de Liette (di Lietti) killed in combat against Chickasaws, First Battle of Ackia, Tupelo, Mississippi Military District? I descend their kinsman from Mobile, Alabama, marine aide Maj. Pierre Gabriel de Juzan (his mother was Mdm. Michelle de Liette de Juzan "of the King's cabins", Versailles, France) who was killed at the First Battle of Ackia. He wed the daughter of Maj. Francoise Trudeau from Canada,  who 1702 built old up-river Mobiles's first fort and 1704 wed Canadian Etienne Burel's "Pelican Girl" daughter, who's mother by her earlier first marriage, was a Canadian "King's Daughter".

I am looking for information on the parents of  Louisa Sworth and her brother Charles. They were born, according to their marriage records, in Elizabethtown (Brockville area, Ontario) Louisa married William Thompson in 1879 in Elizabethtown. Charles married Lucy Lavis in 1881. Louisa listed her parents as John and Meria while Charles listed them as William and Meria.

The first census I fnd Charles and Louisa in is 1881 and each subsequent one afterwards. I have not been able to find them or their parents prior to this. The census information is also conflicting as to their origin, it changes each census.

I have found a family in 1851/61 with the Swart name that may fit but need some help to confirm this. These people originated from the US and some of the records I have reviewed indicated that Meria and her husband were born in Ontario. Any ideas would be appreciated. They were of Methodist faith, but to date I have not been able to find any birth records.

Hi, just joined the group.  I am researching the name Daskaluk and Grottolo and other names associated with this family.  I am also researching the name Leask, Carthew, Peterson,Secord,Ingersoll, Land and Chisholm  (all regarding my husband's family).

I do have quite a bit of information regarding my husband's family but my own family is much of a brick wall of enormous size.

    Hello:

I am searching for information regarding the parents of my second great grandfather, Captain Hiram Williams.  Hiram was born in Port Dover, Ontario in 1822 and died in Halton, Ontario March 12, 1891.  Hiram was married to Mary Anne Travis (1831-1888) but I do not know the date.

We suspect the Williams family were originally from Pennsylvania, but have nothing to back it up.

From the Quebec-Research mailing list -

    Hi there,

Anyone using the Library & Archives Canada (LAC) website for their
research knows how precious a resource it is. What you may not know,
however, is that massive budget cutbacks and a recent change in
management policy are threatening the preservation of this institution.

The Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) has just launched
an awareness campaing about what is really going on at LAC and the very
serious implication this will have on the future of the preservation of
    Canada's cultural heritage.

To know more about this issue:

thank you thank you lelani we have been looking for years for peter's parents names and in matter of days and hour you have found them . you don't know how much this means to me . thank you so much

  • Cara-Mae Hackett

For those that are iffy on ancestry - you could always do the 14 day free trial and then just do as much research as you can (tip though - save the records in jpg format to your computer because once the trial is over, you won't be able to access them even if you've attached them to people in your tree).

  • Cara-Mae Hackett

Also, another useful resource for me has been http://www.findagrave.com - of course not nearly everyone is listed but I found out a lot of info about my birth dad's side of the family thanks to the site.

  • Theresa Marek

Hi... I'm looking for ancestors from Quebec, Canada/ Ontario, Canada for the last name Tremblay...

I found a lot of useful information on Ancestry.com but I'm looking more for people still living through the lineage of Pierre Tremblay born, France 1626.

He left France June 1647 for New France.  He arrived in Quebec in August, 1647. Pierre Tremblay was one of the first colonists in L'Ainge Guardien, P.Q.  There he met, Ozanne Achon. They took a liking to each other, and on October 2, 1657, they were married.

Any information you have is much appreciated.

  • James P. LaLone

Theresa, what is your lineage? I am descended from the family three times. They are considered the largest single family in North America.

  • Theresa Marek

Pierre Tremblay b. 1626, son - Pierre Tremblay b. 1660, son- Nicolas Tremblay b. 1699, son- Basil Tremblay b. 1725, son- Andre Sauveau Tremblay b. 1760, son Pierre Tremblay b. 1824, son- Pierre Trembaly b. 1832 & wife Emilia Fontain, daughter Julia Tremblay Bergeron b.1875(St. John, Ontario, Canada) -- daughter, Carrie Bergeron Giambalvo b. 1905 - daughter Rosemary Giambalvo Pooler b. 1937.

I found out during my research my best childhood friend is also a part of Pierre Tremblay (1626) lineage through his son.  Michael Tremblay... That was a lot of fun finding that out!

  • James P. LaLone

Theresa, I have something slightly different. First: it is unlikely that Pierre TREMBLAY is the son of Pierre TREMBLAY b. 1824 (having a son at age 8 is unlikely.

What I Have is Pierre TREMBLAY-ROMAINE (s/o Andre-Sauveur) m. to Helene MIGNIER-LAGACE. They had a son Pierre TREMBLAY m. 31 Jan 1853 Grande-Baie (Port Alfred) to Emelie/Elmire FORTIN daughter of Antoine FORTIN & Marie-Cornelie TREMBLAY. Marie-Cornelie is the daughte of Antoine 7 Marie TREMBLAY.

I have only know of one child listed for Pierre & Emelie which is Elmire. Besides Julia what other children did they have? Thanks, Jim.

  • James P. LaLone

Theresa, it should have read Antoine & Mare, not Antoine 7 Marie. Sorry. Also see my article posted on the French-Canadian Society of Michigan's webpage http://fchsm.org/pdf/Tremblay%20Series.pdf   The genealogy has been corrected and added greatly to it since it was published. Jim.

  • Theresa Marek

The Pierre Tremblay you speak of... I'm sure I have the year of birth wrong.  I'm trying to follow information that someone wrote down vs.  my information that was lost on my computer as a word file.  I have to start some parts over.  The informations you have is most likely correct.   I have Andre Sauveau Tremblay married to Romaine Mercier 1796. Then a son - Pierre Tremblay m to Helene Minier dit Lagace same... m 1824 .. Then their son Pierre maried Emilie Fortin same... daughter of Antoine Fortin m. Jan 31 1853...   Pierre & Emelie had 13 children... I have a Picture of Pierre and Emilie Tremblay.

There children are Elmire, Demerise, Supliin, John, Marie, Odeal, Kate, Joseph, Romeo E., JULIA, Armilda"Millie", Rosalie and Aggie.  By 1890 Pierre (Peter) & Emelie arrived in Sault Sainte Marie, Chippewa County, Bruce Township, MI  -- UP Which was Neebis Island, Michigan.

I do have information regarding Elmire Tremblay's daughters, Louise, Mary, Bertha and Emma.  I also have a picture of young Bertha and Emma together.  From what I gather Elmire died in Newton, KS around Sept or Oct 1887. .  When he died Bertha and Emma were then raised by their grandparents, Pierre (peter) and Emilie Tremblay.  I have a few letters that a daughter-in-law of Emma's wrote to my great Aunt Leona (Who was one of JULIA's children) mentioning Berta and Emma were 92 & 89 in the year of 1976.

Also a post card dated Nov 1942 to Bertha from her Aunt Armilda"Millie" stating that Aunt JULIA found tombstones Of Pierre & Emilie.

I will be checking into the French-Canadian Society of Michigan's webpage.

I've read articles that "all" Tremblays (or changes of spelling) are decedents of Pierre Tremblay and Ozanne Achon.

Jim... Which lineage are you connected to?

Anyone looking at Ancestry.ca this weekend?  Free access to vital records; I'm finding a lot in Quebec!

  • Carolyn Benjamin

Hi:  I am looking for any information regarding a Marion Burrows Wheeler.  She supposedly lived on a farm near Teulon, Manitoba, Canada in the latter years of 1900.  Her farm supposedly burned down and afterwards, she suffered a nervous breakdown and was institutionalized and died in Canada.  Her maiden name was Marion Burrows and married a Julian G. Wheeler.  I've been looking for any record for this woman and have come up empty handed.  Thanks so much for any tips or information you can give me.  If you are close to where the vital records are kept and can find something, I would be so appreciative.

    Thank You, Carolyn Benjamin

I'll have to keep waiting for "Sinnett" but I'm so very excited to look through some of these documents!

  • Prussian MARTIN

My Hubert Charles MARTIN, single, occupation carver, emigrated to Canada from Frome, Somerset, England on 3 May 1907. Port of departure was Glasgow, Scotland on the Cassandra and embarkation some 24 days later in Montreal/Quebec. There is a potential sighting of him in a border crossing from Canada to the US (Port Huron, Michigan)for Sep 1907. There is a further border crossing for 24 May 1916 to Detroit. Such border crossings  may be an indication it is my ancestor since his aunt lived in Dakota. I have been unable to find him in the 1911 Canada Census but am lead to believe by a distant family member in the US that he died in 1952 in Saskatoon. Any help in learning more of this ancestor would be appreciated.

  • Al (alpobc)

    Hi all;

This was posted on FB, just wondering if anyone has access to Newfoundland newspapers from 1965 and be willing to look for this clipping. I did some editing on the blurb.

This newspaper clipping we think was in the St. John's NFLD newspaper, probably in June or July of 1965. As you can see, the first part of it has been cut off, probably what identifies this little girl who now lives here in BC. She was adopted from this photo, we think. Her adoptive mother has recently died and she found this while cleaning out her safe. Can anyone out there help us find her natural family? Anybody want to go sleuthing through micro-fiche / microfilm in a library back there? She was told she is from Cornerbrook but the back of this clipping mentions streets in St. John's. Please SHARE this everyone!

    Thanks.

    Al
